After the C=O's jumping the gun, and posting a story out of proper order, normal service has now resumed in the rate the RTD years polls.
And what a place to resume! Steven Moffat's first serious contribution to Who, London during the blitz, and our introduction to the omni-sexual Captain Jack Harkness.
So, what did you think? Let's be hearing from you.

Re: Rate "The Empty Child"
This story was superb. From the dialogue between Jack and the Doctor, serving as a nice subtext for sex, to the utterly convincing scenes of Rose dangling from a barrage balloon during a German attack, there were lots of nice touches. But what totally blew me away was Dr. Constantine's transformation into a gas-mask zombie- to this day that scene still sends shivers down my spine.
Absolutely five cries of "are you my mummy" out of a possible five.

Nope, I'm not your mummy. Sorry, kid. Loved this episode. Plenty of memorable dialogue, some Spock, the first appearance of Jack and very creepy monsters. And I'll second a mention of Dr. Constantine's transformation, properly disturbing stuff. 5/5.
The Doctor: And I'm looking for a blonde in a Union Jack. A specific one, mind you, I didn't just wake up this morning with a craving.

Re: Rate "The Empty Child"
This episode was proof to me that the return of Doctor Who was no flash in the pan, that this return was a long term project. My jaw just dropped to the floor when I saw the sequence of Rose dangling from that balloon with Luftwaffe bombers flying towards her. It probably cost more than the entire special effects budget for all of the Sylvester McCoy stories. As for the first part of the story, I thought it was amazing. I suspected that Nancy was older than she claimed to be. However, I was really disappointed that Jack joined the TARDIS crew and not Nancy.

Funny you should say that, Cat. I remember the first time I saw this- and due to how long it took for the SciFi channel to pick the series up, it was in May, 2006 when I saw it for the first time- my initial reaction was "we're a very long way from 'The Horns of Nimon.'"

An easy 5/5... when I first saw it. What we've been treated to since has really raised the bar. So a very solid 4/5 from me.

Re: Rate "The Empty Child"
One of the best opening episodes to a two parter we've had. It created the situation, gave us a lot of information, introduced good characters and managed to produce a cliffhanger that looked like solid doom for all involved.
4/5 - excellent.

By turns, spooky and laugh-out-loud fun - sheer sustained enjoyment. 4/5
