Trust you Mr. Controversial!
I'm still a fan of this grossly underrated story and give it a solid 4/5.

Re: Rate "Boom Town"
I've always liked this one. One of RTD's better scripts, probably because of its small scale. Not that he does large scale badly, I just prefer it when he works on this level. Same reason that I like The Long Game so much I suppose.
Has to be said that I've rated series one very highly, I fear this may change with series two however...

Re: Rate "Boom Town"
In retrospect, you could be forgiven to concluding that this episode was done primarily to do two things:
- Wrap up the story line concerning the Slitheen; and,
- Introduce us to the heart of the TARDIS in preparation for series finale.
But boiling down the story to those points alone overlooks what is some truly wonderful dialogue and character moments. Margaret baiting Rose, Jack, Mickey and the Doctor about whether they could look her in the eye. The dinner conversation between Margaret and the Doctor. Mickey and Rose appearing to break up.
What I like about this story is that this was RTD's first serious introspective look at the nature of the show, as Margaret played the role of judge to the Doctor's "happy go-lucky" lifestyle, even as the Doctor was playing judge to Margaret's Slitheen crimes.
I give a solid 3/5. It isn't my favorite of the first series, but it's a nice quiet story that's actually held up fairly well in the past six years.

3/5. I think there's an issue with pacing, but otherwise a fine addition to Doctor Who.

Re: Rate "Boom Town"
4/5 - Mostly for giving us a look at the morality involved in being the Doctor and for reminding us that disappearing into time and space has unpleasant knock on effects for the people left behind.
I had no pacing issues, but I did feel that the scenes between Mickey and Rose could have been given a bit more attention.

Re: Rate "Boom Town"
Hrmm, missed rating this one. 4/5 from me. Great character stuff, some solid performances and, to be honest, I don't care about accusations of DEM. Never have, never will. There's nothing wrong with that cropping up in SF now and then.

Re: Rate "Boom Town"
Unfairly overlooked at the time, this deserves to be seriously re-evaluated. 4/5
