BBC to terminate DW Confidential
Looks like they plan to terminate DW confidential at the end of this series.
Raising a bunch of traffic on twitter. (see hashtag #saveDWC)
Some of these folks also set up a petition: http://www.petitionbuzz.com/petitions/savedwc
on twitter can follow @SaveDWC
Anyway, I've always likesd the show, and think it's a bad idea to terminate it. Not sure if this is appropriate here or a duplication, mods can move/merge/or delete as needed.

Re: BBC to terminate DW Confidential
Sorry to see DWC go, but lets be honest, it was well past its sell-by date.
On the other hand, I wonder what BBC Worldwide thinks. They have just lost their DVD box set extras.

Re: BBC to terminate DW Confidential
In many ways you're probably right - and I preferred the early days of DWC, but I'm still grumpy about them giving it the shove.

It's a bit sad to see it go, especially for financial reasons.

I've not really watched it since series 3 (I will still watch the odd episode but I don't go out of my way to see it). I think it is past it really but I have still signed the petition. After all, the more DW related stuff, the better.

Re: BBC to terminate DW Confidential
I watched it for the first time in god knows how long the other week (after The God Complex) and found that apart from the five minutes of Toby Whithouse talking about the story, the rest was pretty much the same as it had been last time I watched.
I won't miss it, and if it's costing money that could be used to make other things then maybe it's time to let it go and let Worldwide pay for their own DVD extras.

To be fair, what you get in the box set is a full season worth of "Confidential Cut-Downs," which last, on average 15 minutes each. 13 of these comprise one disc. If the BBC is going to do away with commissioning another series of Confidential, I would hope that the production staff for Doctor Who would make that up by filming exclusive content stuff themselves, and putting straight into the box set.

I think at this point it's just costing money that the BBC haven't got.
There's a rant here about the feckless Tory goat****ers who've been desperate to sell everything to The Murdoch Empire. We'll skip that. It's a shame to see Confidential go, it was useful for insights and amusing moments.

To be fair, Dave, it's not just the feckless Tory goat****ers that have been smucking the BBC; it's been one big goat-fuelled orgy involving Murdoch and both sides of the house...
I'm halfway through Series 2 in Confidential terms. I missed a couple and never got round to catching up. Everybody generally seemed so... nice... It wasn't like a DVD from the Davison era at all....

Re: BBC to terminate DW Confidential
I can live without the Confidentials (I keep recording but not actually watching them) although it seems a shame that they are going. What is worrying me is wondering what else the BBC will stop making or never now contemplate making. They were pretty comprehensively done over in the last licence fee negotiations.

Re: BBC to terminate DW Confidential
Right. For my part I think they're not significant and of limited value outside some self-promotion stakes, so they can go. But further on what Nick said above, my concern might be more on the lines of indirect effects. BBC worldwide not opting to pay into extras for example, which in turn perhaps diminishes their interest in supporting DVD sales of Who titles, which given the role today of DVD sales in TV production, particularly "franchises," might in turn have some negative effect in future Who projects. Things are interconnected so much these days. Otherwise I'd have said it had a good run and wouldn't matter.
Re: BBC to terminate DW Confidential
Surely it's very cheap to make. It's a documentary on the making of a TV programme. It's not original drama.

Re: BBC to terminate DW Confidential
I've enjoyed Matt, Karen and Arthur being loonies (the phrase "What's a marrow?" still makes me chuckle ) but I've not paid much attention to the rest for a while so I'm not too fussed either. Hopefully it doesn't impact on the main show or the DVD extras.

This is very much my sentiment - I do enjoy the full length versions, however I'm not as gutted when I miss them as I used to be.Rich Flair wrote:Yeah. it's not as good as it used to be, but better than nothng.
