Series 3 delivers it's third story, and it proves to be our last visit to New New (New New...) York. And things seem a bit of a standstill. Anyone missing the Macra? Alright, don't have kittens!

So what did you think of Gridlock? Brilliant story, or jammed up dead end cul-de-sac? Let's be hearing from you.

This did absolutely nothing for me, and still doesn't. Can't understand the love for it.

For me, the references to Gallifrey were just marvellously under-played, almost lyrical. I loved that the Doctor lied to Martha about the fate of his home planet, and spent the rest of the story regretting it. It made for a nice twist on having to engage in a bunch of expositional dialogue about the Time War, and besides, we'd already seen that in Series 1.

And, into the bargain, we got a big clue about the Series 3 story arc neatly deposited in our laps. I think the overall story arc in Series 3 was handled much more deftly than either "Bad Wolf" or "Torchwood."

All told, I'm very fond of this story. 5/5

The Doctor: I lied to you, cos I liked it. I could pretend, just for a bit, I could imagine they were still alive underneath that burnt orange sky. I'm not just a Time Lord; I'm the last of the Time Lords. The Face of Boe was wrong; there's no one else.

Gets a 5/5 from me as well. Though the use of the Macra was little more than window-dressing, I didn't mind it. I loved The Doctor's role in this story, and Tennant ran with it. I liked Brannigan and his wife, as well as most of the other characters. Plenty of good dialogue, some great visuals, all told a fine episode.

A fine thing, having The Doctor's recollection of Gallifrey be a near direct quote from his own grand-daughter, Susan.

An odd concept - I can see how it may not hook one, and if the concept does not, little else is likely to compensate. If it does work for you, I'd think you'd relish this episode. Some things were a bit overblown/overplayed, to my taste. In this case I liked that the arcs were not particularly relevant, whatever forecasting went on. The Time War is really not something likely to be a good focus in terms of detailing (thus we don't have Time War Who movies, specials, episodes etc). Its principal value is as a device which put The Doctor in a particular light. That was well reflected here. Most of this episode however is bold and/or intriguing to me and it is among my favorites of classic or modern Who. 5/5 here.

Am sorry to hear it didn't work much for you, CO.

Have any of you seen the bit in one of those documentaries showing the lady playing the cat nun nurse waiting about on the steps off set in full regalia? Seen out of the show and in an everyday context really set off for me just how brilliant and intricate the makeup/prosthetics were. The talents of those guys are just stunning. She also came off quite charmingly I thought.

I always wondered if anyone was tempted to do a flashback to just after the Doctor and Martha left Hame weeping over the departed Boe - when Boe does a large gasp, and asks her out for a drink...

I had quite a thing for her in cat form, but haven't seen her in human guise.
