Series 3 begins to pull the various loose threads together and builds to its conclusion with this story, the first of a trilogy. Cap'n Jack is back. We've gone to the year 100 Trillion. And we get to meet the future-kind, see a close up of Martha and the Doctor's teeth, a blue insect alien makes her own milk, and Derek Jacobi hears drums.

So what did you think of it?

The Futurekind were a bit silly at times, but not so much so as to undermine the episode for me. It was good to see Jack again; his conversation with Ten represents just a bit of the memorable and quite quotable dialogue on display in this story. I liked Chantho, her character design and particular quirks made for a fun character. Sir Derek as The Master/Yana was a masterstroke, and he chewed the scenery with style when he rediscovered himself. John Simm was also excellent, quickly establishing himself as an effective mirror of Tennant's Doctor.

I think I'll give it a 5/5.
