Welcome to the first of our Classic Era Polls.
We've gone right back to the beginning with our first glimpse of the Doctor, his grand-daughter and two investigative teachers. How do you rate the very first ever Doctor Who story (and these are full stories rather than episodes)? Have your say!
Polls will be open for 2 weeks.

Re: Rate "An Unearthly Child"
I always count this as being two separate stories, as the last three episodes only have the loosest of connections to the first. Episode 1 is brilliant, 5/5 from all involved. Episodes 2-4 is not so good, only 2/5, giving an overall score of 3/5.
By the way, check out the Fan Edit that Liam was raving about last year. Its really good.

Re: Rate "An Unearthly Child"
I agree that it's hard to rate this as a single story, but I'm quite fond of the cavemen. Hartnell is a delightfully horrible Doctor, which is endlessly fascinating to me as one who grew up with the wacky and nice Baker & Davison Doctors.
From the proto-psychadelic strangeness of Susan at school to the life-threatening action of the caves, the story is creepy, scary, dark and dangerous.
Also everything with Barbara in gets bonus points from me! 4/5

2/5. The first episode is 5/5 without a doubt. But the other three are possibly the most boring that DW has ever been. I really want to rate this higher but I just cannot bring myself to do it because I really don't like those other three episodes.

Re: Rate "An Unearthly Child"
I find them really engaging and far from boring. They do seem to be real Marmite episodes. Me, I was entranced by them as a seven year old and still am today. Wonderful.Johnstone McGuckian wrote:2/5. 4/5. Any problems I have with some of the episodes seem to fade in the light of watching this great show beginning.

Hartnell terrified me when I was a kid.

Re: Rate "An Unearthly Child"
I'll put myself down as one of those who found the first episode fantastic, but the next three average, at best. So I'll give it a merged rating of 3/5.
