Our Fourth Episode of the new series is all about three. It's all about the 'slow' invasion of the cubes.
So, what did you think of this week's offering?
This thread will remain locked until transmission of the episode in the UK. Which means the usual spoiler warning for North American viewers is in place: if you visit this thread before transmission occurs on BBC-America, there is every chance you'll learn something you wish you hadn't. Be warned!

Re: Rate "The Power Of Three"
Bit odd, that. Some good scenes, but the overall plot made little to no sense.
Re: Rate "The Power Of Three"
A great episode, and yet another nail in the coffin for the UNIT Dating Debate. This and the Sarah Jane Adventures prove that Doctor#3's exile was contemporaneous with the year the episode was broadcast.

Why would that be? Amy said that she's been travelling with the Doctor for 10 years, which would put the episode at at least 2020.

I sort of agree. The ending was a bit of a let down, because it resolved the plot by having the Doctor wave his sonic screwdriver around.
However, just like The Edge of Destruction, the peril wasn't the plot that mattered and we were supposed to be looking at the relationships involved. And stuff.
I enjoyed the slow invasion, I was actually enthralled by a piece of Chibbers writing, I was very pleased to see the new face of UNIT and I hope they retain that casting for the future, and it was nice to see a change in pace and style.
But it did rather collapse like a souffle at the end.
Re: Rate "The Power Of Three"
Much, much better - a very high 4 from me - only missed a 5 because the ending was a bit rubbish - the boxes were truly scary, not sure what was going on with the sinister porters' faces though.
I think she said it was "their time" not earth or doctor's time - I took this to mean she had added all the bits of her continuous experience together whether in the Tardis or "real" life and got to 10 years.Rich Flair wrote:The Browncoat Cat wrote:A great episode, and yet another nail in the coffin for the UNIT Dating Debate. Re: Rate "The Power Of Three"
Yep, I heard Amy's line as "We think it's been ten years. Not for you, or Earth, but for us." The "We think" certainly suggests this, otherwise just they'd look at a calendar and know for certain it's 2020+ wouldn't they? Though I'm sure Lord Sugar would've loved to hear he gets plenty more series.Jennyjenkins wrote:I think she said it was "their time" not earth or doctor's time - I took this to mean she had added all the bits of her continuous experience together whether in the Tardis or "real" life and got to 10 years.

Kate Stewart is supposed to be the Brigadier's daughter. Jemma Redgrave is 47 years old, and if we assume the character and the actress are the same age, she would have been born in 1965. That is the year after the 13 year old Sarah Jane's friend died in Whatever Happened to Sarah Jane. In Invasion of the Dinosaurs Sarah Jane says she is 23 year's old, therefore it must be set in 1974, when Kate Lethbridge-Stewart would be 10 years old.

Well f*** me. I'm giving a Chibnall episode 5/5. If you'd have told me that I'd be doing that 4 weeks ago, I'd have laughed at you.

I'm just amazed that people are still having debates about the dating of UNIT episodes, when there are several billion other things in the world that are of more importance and interest. The Browncoat Cat wrote:A great episode, and yet another nail in the coffin for the UNIT Dating Debate. It was one of the things I thought the coalition would sort out, but no, they've screwed us again!

Re: Rate "The Power Of Three"
I had to wait and watch this from the BBC-America website. I was a bit under the weather Saturday night when it aired, and I think that affected my viewing.
I gave this a three, and my only reason for doing that was the Shakri- that felt like a completely tacked-on ending. Upthread a bit, Dave pointed out that the plot all got resolved a bit conveniently with the Doctor waving his sonic screwdriver around. I found that a bit underwhelming as a resolution.

Re: Rate "The Power Of Three"
We made a pledge that we would resolve the UNIT dating conundrum, but now that we are in control of the time streams it has proved not possible to that. I apologise for making that pledge, but under the Wibbly-Wobbly Timey-Wimey Act of 2012, 1875 and 87BC, we can assure you that Steven Moffat will be writing that pledge out of continuity.Dave Webb wrote:Rich Flair wrote:
