We've now had our first glimpses of the 2012 Christmas Special.

First, there is this mini-episode, "The Great Detective."

And then we got our first trailer for the Christmas Special, and learned the (apparent) title: The Snowmen.

So, thoughts? Reactions?

Lovely to see Vastra and co. back (and a bit of wibbly-wobbly with the Sontaran)! I try to avoid spoilers but I'd heard mutterings about snowmen and the hope it may be the Yeti back so it's a bit of a shame it doesn't look like they'll be involved, but I'm sure the scary snowmen will be decent and REG will be good. Looking forward to it!

This really is looking good. I love the fact that Vastra & Co. are back. Some nice continuity between the incoming new TARDIS Team and the old. If Strax is still alive, how come he is not still out amongst the stars doing his penance? Unless helping The Doctor at Demons Run cancelled that out.

I've been pondering Strax's involvement in this story, myself. I'm sure the Moff will provide something of an explanation on how it is he died at Demon's Run, but is here now. Perhaps helping Vastra is part of his "penance."

I'd been hoping for yeti or Ice Warriors.

A couple of details have been released concerning "The Snowmen." First, the interior of the TARDIS has apparently undergone something of a make-over to make it more dark in appearance (reflective of the Doctor's mood since losing Amy and Rory.)

Second, the voice of the snowmen has been provided by none other than Sir Ian McKellan.

I thought for a while that Jenna-Louise Coleman was playing two characters in this, because the prim buttoned down Victorian governess would never normally have worn that red dress under any circumstances. The interview with J-L C in the latest DWM has clarified thlngs, but it is still stretching credulity that she can get away with moonlighting as a barmaid. Having said that, this is Doctor Who and not Downton Abbey, so I suppose anything can happen.
