Rate "The Talons Of Weng-Chiang"

Ah, those fascinating Victorian years, in place like the London Messrs. Jago and Litefoot are familiar with: Girls are being kidnapped right off the street, ghosts have apparently been spotted in the very opera house run by Henry Gordon Jago, and giant rats are running amok in the sewers of London. And at the center of all this swirling chaos is a mysterious and enigmatic Chinese magician named Li H'sen Chang. The Doctor, with a bemused Leela in tow, decides to investigate this magician who claims to serve the god Weng-Chaing. Chang's claim is that he is looking for a cabinet his master somehow lost long ago. The Doctor, however, discovers the truth: Weng Chiang is actually Magnus Greel, a tyrant from the 50th Century whose escape into the past has left him a disfigured monster.

So what did you think of the six part story which concluded Season 14? Was it the proverbial slow boat to China? Or just Chinese whispers? Let's be hearing from you!

One of the all-time greats. Voted favourite story ever in the DWAS 50th Anniversary Poll. A brilliant script from Bob Holmes, and tremendous turns by all concerned. 5/5.

I cannot disagree with any of that. A clear triumph of a story, brilliant performances, brilliant characterizations, marvelous story. I regard this is as one of the benchmarks of the Tom Baker era. Easy 5/5.
