The Bohemian Rhapsody era of Doctor Who officially begins, as the newly regenerated Doctor is called in to investigate the theft of a set of plans to a disintegrator gun by what appears to have been some sort of robot. The course of the investigation leads him to the Thinktank facility, a group of fascistic scientists who appear to have no moral qualms about using both the Robot and the disintegrator gun to impose their edicts upon the rest of humanity. And things seem to go from bad to worse, it appears that Sarah Jane may be the only one who can influence the robot.

So, what did you think of the story that kicked off the Fourth Doctor's tenure? Let's be hearing from you...

It's OK. Who meets King Kong. The CSO doesn't work, neither does the toy tank, but there are some nice turns and it sets us up for a great few years. Smile

It's been a few years since I've watched this, but my abiding memory is one of a story that felt like it sort of ran out of steam somewhere in the 3rd episode but still continued through the motions. By the conclusion of the story, I felt less enthusiastic about than I did in the first episode. Still, it did give us mad Sir Thomas of Baker in his first story.

3/5.

Having recently re-watched this, my revised vote would be a 4. CSO is better than I remembered and the chemistry between Tom. Lis & Ian is immediate and wonderful.
