The Devil's Whore
Or, Channel 4 in decent new British drama shocker!
I thought this was very good. It captured the spirit of the times, but managed to do it without caricaturing either side and with superb acting as well - especially Andrea Riseborough and John Simm.
Anyone else see it?

Yep, I saw it and enjoyed it very much indeed. For an opening episode it quite successfully managed to sketch in the complexities of the time with more than a touch of finesse and, as you so rightfully point out Nick, the acting was outstanding.
For the remaining three episodes can successfully build on the foundation laid here, then it's shaping up to be one of Channel 4's best dramas for a long time.

Re: The Devil's Whore
Glad to hear this is good- I recorded it, as Mrs Lee expressed a desire to watch it as well. Which means it'll be a while before we get around watching it, as she's away at Uni and we also have episodes of Merlin, Life and the Prince John documentary to catch up on. There's only so much we can fit into a weekend!!
Will give a more detailed review at a later date.

still looking for a way to "obrain" this --
I believe Murray Gold did the score for it.

Although, by now, every time I hear Angelica's (lovely) music theme I'm... tensely waiting for the other shoe to drop, wondering what else bad (and grisly onscreen) is going to happen...

Re: The Devil's Whore
I wish this was longer than four parts as I don't want it to finish next week!
A prediction for next year: Andrea Riseborough will get the BAFTA for Best Actress for either this or The Long Walk To Finchley.
