With everything that's been going on, I'd totally forgotten about this until Ginger Ninja shouted at me that it was on! Very Happy

So did anyone else see it? I'm a bit non-plussed as to what to make of it. There were some nice performances including Bradley Walsh, Bill Paterson & Ben Daniels, and it moved along at a typically brisk L&A pace.

But, obviously, it was soooooo derivative, and I felt I could pilot the entire British Airways Boeing 747 fleet through the plot holes. So like I say I'm scratching my head - and no, I haven't got nits! Razz

We liked it very much. I think derivative is perhaps too harsh a word. It was the establishing episode and so it's natural it should adhere very closely to the tired and established winning formula of the parent series.

What might have helped even more to make it feel that way was the fact that the script was - unless I'm very much mistaken - based on one of its US counterpart's episodes.

I like the fcat that they managed from the off to make the city itself very much a character in its own right - another hallmark of the parent that's been successfully replicated.

The think to remember here is that everything you need to know about what to expect from the show is there in the title: if you're at all familiar with the original, then last night's opener did exactly what it said on the tin.

Some wonderful performances, shape writing, and a show that has the in-built advantage of having a tried and proven format very much worked in the favour of L&O: UK's premier outing.

I suspect given time to find its feet and fully exploit its English aspects will mean that ITV have their first successful new long running drama series in quite some time.

I didn't realise it was on until I saw the advert for it in the Guardian yesterday! I knew it was coming, just not so soon.

Pretty good, I thought - and infinitely better than Whitechapel, IMO - though it is strange to see such an American format and style in a British setting. Ben Daniels was excellent, though all the cast were good - I'm not entirely convinced by Bradley Walsh as a copper, but his camaraderie with Jamie Bamber was very convincing and felt real.

Don't know if it'll be something I end up watching every week, but I'm sure I'll catch more of it.

6.4 million overnights. Not bad, not brilliant. Will probably stablise in the mid 5's I guess.

Was there any choice Chibnall lines? No "ever you ever come so hard"?

Nope... really good dialogue - some choice moments when Bradley Walsh breaks into fluent (well it sounds fluent) French.

For me episode 2 had the same good, and bad points, as the first. Some nice performances and a narrative that (to a lesser extent than last week) took you along with it - but still far, far too many plot holes. IMO this is mainly down to the problem of having to base stories on US episodes. Simple fact - our systems are totally different, and it doesn't work.

Oh and it may be good if we can avoid dead children one week.

You should Gill, because it's really good. As for plot holes, couldn't see any myself. I found it a really interesting story line that is highly pertinent to the 'nanny state' syndrome which is afflicting Britain.

That said, L&O has always been unremittingly grim and the UK version doesn't change the formula much - remembering that New York is probably the most 'European' of the great USA cities, therefore the 'feel' of both productions will be similar.

Next season will see totally original storylines rather than riffs on old US episodes, which will be very interesting.
