Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this - but I just read that John Scott Martin passed away last week and thought he was more than worthy of a mention. John "appeared" in Doctor Who for over 20 years and 110 episodes as a Dalek operator. But he also had a much more extensive career than just that.

His acting career spanned half a century and included appearances in I, Claudius, Z Cars, Quatermass and the Pit and Softly Softly, to name but a few of his TV roles. John also appeared in Monty Python films, West End Musicals and in the music video for the Catatonia single "Dead from the Waist Down", and appeared as a dancing instructor in a brief scene in Alan Parker's film of Pink Floyd's The Wall. his first Dalek role in Doctor Who came in 1965 and his last in 1988.

Born in Toxteth, Liverpool, on April 1, 1926, his first performances were as a chorister at St Philemon’s church. After active service with the Gordon Highlanders, he joined the Liverpool Grand Opera Company. A professional panto at the Liverpool Empire would start an acting career that lasted more than 50 years. His West End shows included Kismet, Oliver! and The Streets of London, and he played the rabbi opposite Topol in Fiddler on the Roof at Manchester Opera House.

He recently appeared in a series of 118 118 commercial's and his final role was as Rico in Mine All Mine. John had been battling with Parkinson’s disease for some time. He passed away on January 6, 2009 aged 82 years.

Nope, this is the perfect place for such a report, old chap.

Such a shame - I last met him at the "Day of the Daleks" convention at the Adelphi Hotel here in Liverpool, some years ago now.

He was warm, witty and a pleasure to spend time with.

Yet another part of our collective past slips away... Sad

Saw this yesterday, a really sad loss, I think it's a shame that he wanted to don his casing in the new series and never got a chance...RIP.

Very sad to hear. Not many people have contributed to WHO more than this man. He will be missed.

That's a heck of a run.

May he rest in peace.
