Well, as a recent convert Im totally addicted to this band .
However , Im obviously NOT a true fan as Division Bell is one of fav albums and the new Gilmore album Live in Gdansk is simply stunning.
To me there is nothing that can touch the majesty of "high hopes", a simply beautiful track.

any other Floyd fans there?

The Live 8 appearance was everthing one could hope for and now Richard Wright has passed we will never see th elike again.

I love their earlier albums - Piper, Saucerful, Ummagumma (to a lesser degree) - plus Dark Side and Wish You Were Here, and, oddly enough, The Final Cut. The rest of their stuff, I find, tends to sound like other bands trying to be Pink Floyd.

And I find The Wall to be terribly overrated. Lots of smash-the-system stuff that was fine when I was 16, but now seems rather empty posturing.

Brilliant band.

Comfortably Numb is one of the best songs ever.

Yep! And also a fan of Roger Waters, who produced some quite amusing solo stuff.

They tend to be a mood band, in that I have to really want to listen to specific albums to dig them out, but The Wall (or at least "Run Like Hell" ) and Dark Side of the Moon are lurking somewhere on the MP3 player, and I have about half the back catalog elsewhere.

I've been listening to a lot of Floyd of late. I've decided that Wish You Were Here is my favourite album although Dark Side of the Moon is a close second. I've also listened to The Wall all the way through, while it is better than good there is some real rubbish on there. It seems like they just lost all creative talent after Comfortably Numb. The Trial, for example, is just dire.

There's a joke that Roger Waters fans like to tell.

A musician dies and, arriving at the Pearly Gates, is informed that he has so delighted other people with his talents that he's in for a special reward.
"Within, we have assembled a group of the greatest musicians ever and you shall play with them, gig after gig" says Saint Peter.

And lo, the musician steps through the Pearly Gates to find a band of the famous. He spots the likes of Elvis, Freddie Mercury, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, George Harrison, John Lennon...all mooching around and tuning instruments or, in the case of Keith Moon, kicking over drum kits. All of a sudden he sees a man in mirrored aviator shades and a leather jacket tuning a bass.
"Hang on" says the musician, "That's Roger Waters! He's not dead!"
"Ah no," says Saint Peter "that's God. He just likes to think he's Roger Waters."

I like David Gilmour solo album On An Island. It's relaxed and content and delicate - and, you imagine the sort of music that Gilmour would have been always been making had he not been haunted by the ghosts of Syd and Roger...

I liked the joke... Smile
