Lindsay Duncan

Will be playing the companion in the second special. The BBC News site describes her character of Adelaide as "the Doctor's cleverest and most strong-minded companion yet in the unnamed episode."

Pretty good bit of casting from the team there, isn't it? And clever timing on the announcement, just as she's getting lots of press coverage for playing Thatcher next week.

Even cleverer than Martha and more strong-minded than Donna? Blimey!

I wouldn't be at all surprised if her character isn't a riff on the Big Finish 6th Doctor companion, Evelyn Smythe.
