Well... Now I'm going to be seriously bummed if that's the last episode...

Spoiler:
Seeing John in the future was a cool surprise. I liked that no one in the Alt Future knew who he was. Why would they, he's just some kid who disappeared several years ago. Nice Derek cameo as well, not to mention Alison from Palmdale.

The bad news: early indications are that the finale pancaked. Ratings were not high and a lot of commentators see this as the end for the show.

I wouldn't be surprised, just disappointed.

You'd think this would be the show that the scifi community rallies around: although Fox is anathema to a lot of scifi fans "because of what they did to Joss!", they're actually putting out more original science fiction than Sci-Fi. And look at T:TSCC - strong female characters, dark and gritty with an emotional core, good story telling, strong science fiction ideas. So where the heck is the "gravitas" brigade when you really need them? This show has it! The characters haven't cracked a smile in a year!

But no. It's not "exciting" enough and "not enough happens". Jeez, people. Give some people a high octane adventure that never sits still like, ooooo, Doctor Who and they complain that it's too frantic and shallow. Give them deep and gritty and they don't bleedin' well watch!

So it goes. It just rankles that Mad Larry might have been right.

John: Mom, you haven't cracked a smile in a year...
Sarah: Smiles get you killed, John. I smile and the machines win.

Exactly. You can't complain about the lack of such programming if you don't watch it when they deliver some to ya.

On the up side...

Catherine Weaver vs Sarah Connor.

The new terminator vs Security guard:
Guard: Are you the guy who busted my gate?
Terminator: Yes (*kills guard*)
Ms. Weaver: I liked that gate (*kills Terminator*)

Skynet flies a prototype hunter/killer into the Ziera corp building.

The future...looks interesting.

Sarah: You lying Terminator bitch! You're building Skynet...
Weaver: I was building something to fight it and I'd watch who's calling who a bitch.

That's a clever T-1000, no doubt. I also liked when she said Sarah's John couldn't win without her John.

From nosing around the 'net all day it seems we may lose Dollhouse too.

Anyway...

The last ep of T:TSCC does set things up nicely for either a new season or no new season. If you think about it, we now know how John survives Judgement Day.

It'll be May before we know for certain, but what do you reckon the odds are on a new season?

According to some Web reports, we'll know just before the release of the new "Terminator" movie. Fox is so stupid. They'll cancel the one show that can capitalize on the success(?) of the new movie.

And yes, unsurprisingly, Fox will not let a Joss Whedon vehicle properly develop and get its legs. Why, oh, why does he bother to sell anything to them when he knows they won't allow the show to find its audience and build a following?

What is Fox expecting on Friday nights anyway? It's never been a high ratings night. The only thing that matters is are they capturing their target demographics and making a profit doing so.
