The WI-FI card on my laptop has stopped working properly with Ubuntu 9.04. Each time the release a new version of the Linux Kernel, it gets worse. At first it would regularly drop the WPA2 encrypted connection. Then it would only connect to an unrestricted network. Now it won't connect to anything at all. I have had to buy one of those tiny USB thingies to connect to my network.

I had a similar problem with m'desktop and Ubuntu 8.10; in the end, a chap pointed out that an intel chipset wifi card should "just work" - since Intel have apparently hired an awful lot of Open Source coders to create their drivers.
I bought a new wifi card. Easier for me to do with a desktop, I grant you, and have learned my lesson: before I upgrade to a new version I'm going to watch what it's shown to support before I migrate everything.

I suppose I should have expected this sort of problem from a machine bought from PCWorld. The fact that the new little white USB dongle is the size of a postage stamp and hardly noticeable more or less acceptable. The last time I bought one of those devices it was five inches long and looked horribly phalic, sticking out of the side of my old laptop.
