I had the great honour and privilege to meet John Wiles back in 1986. A lovely guy who couldn't cope with what Billy had become, but nonetheless did a brilliant job for the short time he was Producer.

A shame he did such a short run, as most of his stories were first class.

How fortunate for you to have actually had the opportunity to meet the man. What he accomplished during his all too short tenure was remarkable. Particularly taking over from the equally remarkable Ms Lambert.

I'm a great admirer of John Wiles's contribution to the programme; an ingrained tendency to understatement led me to vote 4/5. I read one of his plays for schools based on Greek mythology once; his commitment to making the extraordinary and the epic relate to a sceptical modern child audience must have helped him to the producership and it's a pity that his position was rapidly made impossible by his lead and his immediate boss.
