Who music!
Incidentals are my thang. But hey, theme too if you must.
Most folks know I'm a big fan of the current composer. But the show's got such a wonderful long history of composers and scores to discuss!..

Re: Who music!
I've certainly been enjoying the Series 4 soundtrack. I guess if I had to pick favorites, "A Dazzling End" and "The Rueful Fate of Donna Noble" would be the ones I'd choose. I rather like "The Doctor's Daughter" too, particularly that Queen-esque guitar flourish.

Re: Who music!
As some people probably know already, my favourite ever score in the Classic series was Richard Hartley's for Mindwarp. What a shame it's not available.

Eep! Now that I've gone and looked that up, found it's part of ToaTL... I haven't watched that since first US-PBS broadcast. I think... er, I'd be waiting for a score-only audio DVD choice to check. Sorry. The Co=Ordinator wrote:...Richard Hartley's for Mindwarp. What a shame it's not available.

There's only the odd noise I like between Kingsland and Gold. More Dudley Simpson stuff should be readily available*.

Re: Who music!
I adore most of the Season 18 - 19 music. The Leisure Hive stuff still gives me goosebumps. And the eerie music from Warrior's Gate and Kinda...lovely...
I think Mr Glyn composed some nice atmospheric scores.
Murray's stuff is amazing. He draws out some beautifully evocative themes.
I am rather fond of a certain theme arrangement on a Big Finish Unbound called Sympathy For The Devil....

Re: Who music!
I've just updated my web pages of New Series music cues. They (mostly a bunch of charts) are at
http://www.duke.edu/~ruslan/NewWhoMotifs.html
and they're now cross-referenced to the new soundtrack names. More or less.
I was going to announce how the S4 soundtrack has stayed on top of the iTunes UK soundtrack charts... but today the Twilight album (the new teen vampire romance movie thang) has knocked it down. Ah well, it got a week up there.
G'night all...

Re: Who music!
I would kill to get my hands on CDs of Dudley's music. The trouble is that very little remains of the original tapes, I believe, and that's why it's never been issued. I remember Silva Screen did go to the trouble of getting cues newly recorded for this album:
This has cues from Ark In Space, Genesis Of The Daleks and Pyramids on it but they are re-recorded by someone called Heathcliff Blair. I've never heard this and I've been trying to track down a torrented version just so I can at least venture an opinion. Anyone got it and could run me off a copy?
I've also blogged quite a bit about Delia and Brian Hodgson and reviewed a number of albums of their music.

Re: Who music!
Today's BBC Advent Calendar (Dec. 16) has a snippet of unreleased UNIT music from the recent Sontaran episodes - which of course I can't access from this side of the pond. My normal source at Planet Gallifrey is so far not presenting it, so any pointers to working beyond-the-UK links are appreciated... (Uh, Frank? )

If you pop over to YouTube and put in "Doctor Who 2008 Advent Calendar - UNIT music", it is there.

Re: Who music!
Thanks but...
Nice cue (now I know that much) but a very hard-to-hear air recording (doubled somewhere as "Doctor Who 2008 Advent Calendar - Day 16"). It's almost inaudible under the motor/fan noise and paper rustling.

Re: Who music!
I'll ask anyone in the UK with enough techno-savvy to *directly* record audio playing on their computer... (you know who you are) to, well, please PM me? Apparently no one has since produced anything better than that first YouTube version, and I'm desperate for a clean listen...
