Well speaking as somebody whose interest in cars is only slightly higher than their interest in gout, for example, I'm in it almost purely for the laughs and character interplay. I actually find that who I'm rooting for to win on any given challenge very definitely depends on which of the trio Kate accuses me of being the most like on that particular day.Patrick wrote:Having seen last night's race across Japan, I can honestly say that I seriously rooting for Hammond and May to be the GTR. For some reason, thatDatsunNissan just didn't capture my appeal. Although it did have quite a dramatic finish.
Kamikaze Clarkson.

I have to admit, watching Hammond and May attempt to communicate with those hand-held translators was quite amusing. I never quite understood why some of the locals stood up and shushed Hammond while he was on the phone with Jeremy on the train. Was it because he was using the speaker feature?

It's terribly bad manners to talk on the phone on public transport in Japan... I know - the country that gave us the mobile phone has the strictest etiquette and I for one - admire them for it!

Agreed. Many's the time I've wanted to rip the mobile from some inconsiderate twerps hand and toss it out the train/bus window.Kate Seadevil wrote:It's terribly bad manners to talk on the phone on public transport in Japan... Patrick old chum, you don't have to be "The Amazing Kreskin", to be pretty certain that that particular prediction will come to pass.Patrick wrote:Sid, I sense a frying pan to the head in your near future.

Next week's episode looks pretty good. It looks like we're in for some sort of road rally challenge featuring some classic luxury cars. James May should be right in his element.

Some say he evolved on Mondas and has a cold mechanical appliance where his heart should be. Others say he's never been the same since that fateful appearance at TC-7 in the 1980s.
All we know is he's called the C=OStig.

Re: And on that Bombshell...Top Gear
So I'm doing a search to see if I can find out some information on the American Top Gear production, and quite by accident, I find this:
Top Gear In America
I found that rather enjoyable.

Re: And on that Bombshell...Top Gear
The new series starts on the 21st. First up is a race between the Tornado, a vintage motorcycle and a classic car, apparently.
Guess who's in the train.
Now guess again, because it isn't May.

Its JC, isn't it? How on Earth did they manage to get Clarkson on a train?
Re: And on that Bombshell...Top Gear
BBC Canada is showing Top Gear five days a week, starting from the 2003 season onwards, with the latest season episodes being shown on Thursday nights.
I finally got to see the supervillains race, and why exactly they have the Toyota truck in the studio.
Seeing the Stig in black was wrong. Just....wrong.

Ok.
I am at work, and I hear the words, 'Don't you watch Top Gear?'
Turns out my Supreme Commander, who rides a motorcycle, has a white helmet a la the Stig.

Indeed not - it's June!!!!!
Sorry, I'm so sorry.
Just to compund matters, for those of you who may never have seen it, here's a photo of the C=O version of Top Gear as performed as part of "Aladdin" in January.

Great show.
So the BBC copy my idea and 'reveal' The Stig. Pah! As ever the internet rumours proved to be true, of course.

Re: And on that Bombshell...Top Gear
Will you now be attempting to sign up Schumacher for a guest appearance in your next panto?
And they did reveal the Stig last night...there's a regular Stig for races, training celebs for SIARPC etc, but as the Power Lap times have become more and more important to manufacturers the 'Stig' for most of the fast cars they test is a test driver from the company in question. Given that the task of the FXX is to obliterate the competition, it makes sense that Ferrari sent the fastest test driver they have available to put on the white overalls for the day.

That's what I've been saying for years, Councillor, but nobody believes me. They send their test driver to drive their very expensive cars.

Another excellent episode tonight. From the car for 17 year olds, to the drag race at the end, it was consistently entertaining and enlightening!

C=O, do you know how many episodes are in this current series? I'm wondering how long it will be before we get to see them over here.
