Michael Jackson 1958-2009 Empty Michael Jackson 1958-2009

Post by The Browncoat Cat Thu Jun 25, 2009 3:53 pm

Michael Jackson. There is no doubt that the 50 year old singer, who has passed away was a truly massive talent. He first emerged as one of the Jackson 5, the original Boy Band. Since the 1970's he has been a solo artist. He produced some amazing albums and was the voice on the soundtrack so many peoples life. His life was dogged with tragedy, but that cannot dilute the his music.

It's really hard to find something appropriate to say about this, other than:

I had no idea he was 50. And he leaves behind so many devoted fans, and a legacy.

A deeply flawed - almost certainly through no fault of his own - man whose genuine talent will continue to exert an influence on the musical world for untold years to come.

This is a genuine shock. RIP

A pedo who hadn't managed a decent album since Off the Wall. Perhaps his stolen white kids can finally be given back to their mothers.

Its somewhat eerie how similar it felt to get this news yesterday to how it felt when I heard Elvis had died, or John Lennon. Thriller was an amazing album that influenced pop for years- I heard it was the number one album download on ITunes yesterday.

Did he have issues? Yes, undeniably. But I tend to respect the notion that we should accentuate the positive when one passes.

Good lord, sir! I'm shocked and appalled that you fly in the face of public decency by completely ignoring Thriller! It's just me, probably, but I find it superior to Off The Wall.

If I'm remembering correctly, Thriller spent 23 weeks at number one for album sales in 1984. Off the Wall did no where near that. So I'd say it's not just you.

Thriller is the superior album in my view. In fact I suspect it would be fair to class it as one of the seminal albums of modern musical times.

But then again - maybe that's just me.

Gentlemen. If we're going to slip into a genuine discussion of the relative merits of the late Mr. Jackson's various albums - then I suggest, given the circumstances of this thread's creation, that it's probably fitting that it continues over in the Music section.

I thank you. Smile

I think it's a bit overated, Dave. A bit too poppy. But, you're right, its still a good album.

Bad, however, was bad! But maybe that's just me!

I have no opinion on which his best album was, as for me the most memorable moment of his career was the one involving Jarvis Cocker.

Can we have the real news back now please, or do we have to wait till after the funeral for that to happen?

I only own Thriller. It gets a bit sickly for me in parts. However, I do feel like this is news. The strangest icon ever is dead. And I bet it gets less coverage than Jade Goody.
