Rate Torchwood: Miracle Day Episode 3: "Dead of Night"
Torchwood has been requisitioned to the other side of the pond. A black ops agent has discovered her head screwed on incorrectly. Time to get on with episode 3, in which, I'm advised, Jack will confront Oswald Danes.

Well, that was a bit graphic in places. I'm going to watch it again before I comment.

I thought that was a very good episode, I'm going to hold off on rating it for now cos I want to ponder that a bit. A lot of good questions were asked, the team was a lot more active this time. Felt like more of a team as well.
- Spoiler:
- I'm glad they had Gwen and Jack think of Ianto, it's appropriate that they would.

Re: Rate Torchwood: Miracle Day Episode 3: "Dead of Night"
- Spoiler:
- Okay, after considering last night's episode, the big question that's formed in my mind is "does Jack have a death wish?" And no, I'm not talking about him picking up Brad the barman- the Jack we met in The Empty Child would have done that, although I doubt Doctor Who would have ever shown them having sex.
What I'm talking about is Jack 'drunk-dialing' Gwen and starting to talk about how the don't need Rex or Esther. I'm talking about him sneaking out to confront Oswald without telling anyone where he was going or why he was doing it. And that confrontation... Oswald wanted to be executed? This is why I'm asking about Jack's death wish. I'm wondering if Jack "the impossible thing" Harkness, now that he knows he's no longer immortal, wants to be rid of the burden of living forever.
I certainly didn't see Rex and Dr. Juarez hooking up. Rex hasn't struck me as the romantic type.
And then there's PhiCorp. (Why am I reminded of Bester in Babylon 5? Similar name, I suppose.) Are they the ones sending those phone calls on the cell phone with the rotating triangle logo? Somehow, I don't think it's that simple. RTD is withholding a big suprise on who's behind that triangle organization, which is why I think PhiCorp is a red herring.
Overall, a pretty satisfying episode. After an over-night mulling of the story, I'm giving it a 4/5.

4/5 from me as well.
I think Jack's never felt more alive actually, all those years of immortality must've worn on him and he's enjoying risk again.

Re: Rate Torchwood: Miracle Day Episode 3: "Dead of Night"
I went 3/5. I think I've worked out the problem with Miracle Day for me - RTD's come up with a pretty dark idea, similar to CoE, but the direction and production isn't really reflecting the nature of the story they're trying to tell. CoE was quite restrained in its filming style, quite dull colours etc, while this seems to be shot quite in quite a brash and colourful style. CoE was much more naturalistic, and I think that helped emphasise the horror more as it felt like an intrusion into the real world, while this feels more like something happening in TV land so you're not as connected to it.

Found it incredibly dull in places, and Jack's lecture on safe gay sex was just completely out of place. 2/5.
