Re: Rate "Let's Kill Hitler"
Wow, that was all over the place, but mostly in a good way. Nice to see the return of Fantastic Voyage for the first time since The Invisible Enemy. I expected Amy & Rory to escape via the tear duct! Nice continuity with River using up all her regenerations.
Shame we only saw a tiny bit of Hitler mind you. 4/5.
Aah I see that The Ninja has used the same terminology as me.

Re: Rate "Let's Kill Hitler"
The biggest problem with this story is it was broadcast two and a half months after the previous episode, answering a lot of questions, some of first asked over three years ago. This was a great Fan Pleaser, but unfortunately most of the audience are not Fans and will think that it was a bit of a mess. A great story idea buried under so much exposition that it is swamped.

I agree with the "all over the place, but mostly in a good way" assessment. I'll have to watch it again sometime before settling on a score.

Re: Rate "Let's Kill Hitler"
I didn't find this "all over the place" at all. I think this may have been the most linear story Moffat has written since The Eleventh Hour. River Song's origin story. And it worked on a several levels. My only complaint were the "anti-bodies" being made to look like jelly fish. What are they going to do now if they decide to bring back the Rutans?
I'm giving it 4/5.

Re: Rate "Let's Kill Hitler"
I thought it was a bit of a mess, topped off with the fact that I really couldn't give a monkey's about River bloody Song. I agree with Browncoat's comments that it's very much one for people who've been paying attention and taking notes, and as an episode that really only served to advance various plot threads rather than set up and resolve anything in itself, it's much more soap than anything fans usually give that label to.

I have a feeling this is a bit of a marmite episode.

Re: Rate "Let's Kill Hitler"
I am sick of River Song. I liked her fine in Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead and enjoyed the mystery of her future relationship with the Doctor. I just wish it had stayed that way. I'm afraid I found her just obnoxious in both her Mels and River Song personas last night. The worst thing is that I feel Moffat thinks we should be admiring her and finding her behaviour amusing. Agree with Nick about the soapiness. I begin to think Moffat finds River Song more interesting than the Doctor. Possibly because he can have her behave in a way he can't have the Doctor behave.
The rest of the episode was OK, particularly Rory and Amy. Some good, amusing oneliners. Just ditch the bloody River Song story.

Re: Rate "Let's Kill Hitler"
Here's my take-away analysis of LKH on the morning following it's transmission: The Moff did two things last night. First, rather than spending a long time focusing on what happened to Melody/River after that regeneration scene at the end of Day Of The Moon, he got right to the origin story and dressed it up with a background of Berlin in 1938. So that part of the reveal of River's character background has done, and the table has been set for how she comes to kill "a good man."
Second, he got the Doctor the bit of information that Amy, Rory and River have been denying him since The Impossible Astronaut: the news of his death. Which means the focus can shift from this news being a companion's secret to one of what does the Doctor do with this fore-knowledge. He's clearly going to do something with it.
Now, I get that there's a reaction to River potentially becoming over-exposed. I get that there's a reaction to her being overly smug. But I have to believe there's a purpose to all this the Moff will reveal in good time. The Moff has been developing the Doctor's relationship with River since Silence in the Library. The only major reveal he's got left is what she specifically did to get her sentanced to the Storm Cage facility. And that's something I want to see.

Re: Rate "Let's Kill Hitler"
3/5. Often very funny, with nice performances from the three leads (I think Arthur Davill wins that story). I know that the killing Hitler idea was a deliberate red herring, but I was really looking forward to seeing the type of story that I had in my head (a knockabout slapstick where the Fuhrer narrowly avoids getting got - perhaps with lots of running through Reich-stag corridors). I'm another one who found River/Melody's story quite uninvolving, but it does seem to be slowly heading to its conclusion now...

Re: Rate "Let's Kill Hitler"
I enjoyed the second viewing a lot, and I think I'll rate it a 4/5. I liked Mels, despite River's backstory seeming like even more of a timey wimey pretzel. And post-regeneration Melody was a lot of fun. I think she can be smug, I also think she should be. Give her abilities and intelligence, why would she be at all humble?

Re: Rate "Let's Kill Hitler"
I think I have River fatigue. I enjoy Alex Kingston, but am I the only person who greeted the Doctor's offer to the voice interface with a fond cheer? Yes, adventures in time and space, please!
Ah well. Monsters next week.

Am I the only person disappointed that Melody Pond didn't get a few more incarnations before she became River Smug.andrea wrote:The rest of the episode was OK, particularly Rory and Amy. Some good, amusing oneliners. Just ditch the bloody River Song story.

Be careful what you wish for, Cat! We could have that regeneration reveal that Mels is a hyper-cheerful ginger who has an affinity for carrot juice and vigourous workouts on exercise bikes. I'd rather we didn't go there.
