DVD release schedule - are 2E handling it well?
What's your take on this? Personally, I'll buy any story they release, no matter how crap it is, as the extras are bound to make it worthwhile anyway, but I know there are some people (Paige Foster being the extreme, but I'm aware there are others who are capable of registering their annoyance in a way that doesn't resemble a toddler) who are getting pissed off about the focus on Davison/Colin Baker at the expense of other Doctors.
What do you think?

I'm with Johnston, I don't mind in what order the stories are released as I buy them all.

More like 4 years now, but I thoroughly agree.
And the end of the DVD schedule can't be as bad as the last year or so of VHS releases...

Don't forget that, amongst other things, 2009 will bring The ESpace Trilogy, The Black Guardian Trilogy and Frontier in Space/Planet of the Daleks complete with a recolourised episode 3.
And, most likely in 2010, you'll even be able to waste your hard earned on the Peladon Box set.

Oh, jolly good...
Is that the second Pertwee release that Steve Roberts was initially promising for next year?

Dunno. I don't get my info from Steve. Indeed he tries to debunk anything I hear as fact. As does Ed Stradling. Not knocking them, by the way, I guess they have to try and keep things under wraps.

Thank God. I was getting withdrawl symptoms over the lack of the Margaret Rutherford of Doctor Who. If they're as good as the superb work they did on Silurians they can have my money, no contest.

I'm so far behind, it doesn't really matter to me. What I'm hoping is that they don't get unceremoniously pulled from the shelves before I get a chance to catch up.
I think Hartnell is struggling a bit though. They'll probably have a Marinus/Sensorites/Giants/Space Museum/Ark/Gunfighters boxset called something like Hidden Hartnell just to get them out of the way.

Re: DVD release schedule - are 2E handling it well?
Thank you. I wondered why the thread was a bit slow... Is this a full-time move?
I've just finished the Armageddon Factor Tom/Mary/K9 commentary. God that's depressing. Is there another story where the participants just sit there waiting for the story to end, talking about anything to distract them from the spectacle in front of them?

There's a few Davisons like that...
As for the schedule if they get all the Colins, the rest of Season 18, and a complete Season 24 box-set out of the way as soon as possible I'll be delighted...
...then they can start releasing the good stuff...

Re: DVD release schedule - are 2E handling it well?
Frontier In Space/Planet of the Daleks (inc recolourised ep 3) has been confirmed in the new DWM.

I thought of you when I heard about that .
Also scheduled for this year (for those of us who wait till Thursday for DWM, but shamelessly copied from someone who doesn't ):
The Rescue/The Romans (Feb)
The War Games
The Deadly Assassin
Image of the Fendahl
Attack of the Cybermen (March)
Delta and the Bannermen
Not all bad...
Re: DVD release schedule - are 2E handling it well?
Yes some interesting ones there. Good to see that S24 is not coming out as a box set, 'cos Delta's the only one I'd even contemplate paying money to watch.
*wonders whether Doddy will be on the extras*

Does anyone know how well The Invasion did when it was released and if BBC Worldwide were encouraged enough to consider animating any other lost episodes? Would love to see The Web of Fear again, among others.

From what I recall old man, the DVD release did very well. Unfortunately, both BBC WW and 2Entertain aren't currently considering the animation of any further lost stories due to the excessive cost involved.Barcelona wrote:Does anyone know how well The Invasion did when it was released and if BBC Worldwide were encouraged enough to consider animating any other lost episodes? That might well change in the future - and I hope it does. But for now, what we've already been given is all we're likely to get.

Re: DVD release schedule - are 2E handling it well?
Keys of Marinus has just been announced for this year as well. Not the best Hartnell ever, but I can only welcome more 60s stuff.
That leaves us two slots, theorised as a a boxset and a single release. I'd be willing to stake good money on the former being the Black Guardian trilogy, sometime in September/October, and as for the other one, hmmm...
...I would plump for Masque of Mandragora, as they've been talking about working on extras for it for a while now, but we've already got Deadly Assassin this year, so i'll revise my guess - narrowing it down, I doubt it'll be another 60s one, or a Pertwee, after what Steve Roberts said about the number of those coming this year being halved; I don't think it'll be a Davison, as I'm still willing to bet that all his remaining ones are planned as boxsets (Mara, Kamelion and Awakening/Frontios), I sincerely doubt it'll be another McCoy, so unless they want to wrap Colin Baker by doing The Twin Dilemma, I'm guessing at a later-era Tom - Nightmare of Eden, perhaps?

Re: DVD release schedule - are 2E handling it well?
A commentary for "The Chase" has been recorded by Maureen O'Brien, William Russell, Richard Martin and Peter Purves.
I'm stupidly excited at the fact that it's finally going to be released. For all it's faults, I love this story and with a bit of CGI here and there, it could be awesome 10/10.

I love The Chase. It's a right laugh and it's got the Dalek who can't add up. The Chase s*** on the E-Space trilogy!
