Batman Sues Warner Bros.
Clicky
Or for those amongst us who are clickaphobic...
Batman has a new adversary: Batman. The mayor of an oil-producing city in southeastern Turkey, which has the same name as the Caped Crusader, is suing helmer Christopher Nolan and Warner Bros. for royalties from mega-grosser "The Dark Knight."
Huseyin Kalkan, the pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party mayor of Batman, has accused "The Dark Knight" producers of using the city's name without permission.
"There is only one Batman in the world," Kalkan said. "The American producers used the name of our city without informing us."
The mayor is prepping a series of charges against Nolan and Warner Bros., which owns the right to the Batman character, including placing the blame for a number of unsolved murders and a high female suicide rate on the psychological impact that the film's success has had on the city's inhabitants.
Former natives of Batman are also said to have encountered obstacles when attempting to register their businesses abroad. The mayor is working on gathering together evidence he claims will show that the city of Batman predates the 1939 debut of Bob Kane's superhero in DC Comics.
"We are only aware of this claim via press reports and have not seen any actual legal action," said a Warner Bros. rep in a statement.
Truth, as ever, is sooooo much stranger than fiction.

Words fail to describe how mad this lawsuit is.Sid Seadevil wrote:Truth, as ever, is sooooo much stranger than fiction.
Batman's been around since 1939 and it's only started bothering them recently, eh?

It'll be Frank Miller that tipped 'em over the edge...

A prize goes to the first journalist who can get the people of this town all assembled in the main square to shout 'I'm the goddamn Batman!'...

Frank Miller and Joel Schumacher combined in all probability. Oh, and Val Kilmer - but not George Clooney, obviously.Doc Filth wrote:Zoltar wrote:Words fail to describe how mad this lawsuit is.Sid Seadevil wrote:Truth, as ever, is sooooo much stranger than fiction.

They probably did that the moment they collectively realised that Adam West was no longer the "goddamned Batman!"...Nick Barlow wrote:A prize goes to the first journalist who can get the people of this town all assembled in the main square to shout 'I'm the goddamn Batman!'...

Re: Batman Sues Warner Bros.
If they want to have a claim that stands up, they need to show that their town has been involved in a protracted conflict with a town called Joker.
If they can't do that, the claim should be thrown out of court.

When arriving in court, if this silly nonsense ever actually makes it to a courtroom, Warner Bros should turn to the plaintiff and ask: Why so serious?Dave Webb wrote:If they want to have a claim that stands up, they need to show that their town has been involved in a protracted conflict with a town called Joker.

Indeed. But the movie does have one virtue of interest, it made piles and piles of cash.Sid Seadevil wrote:Don't you find it rather ironic that they've chosen to kick up a fuss over the only film in the series that [i]doesn't[/] have the name of their town as its title.

This reminds me of when the isle of Lesbos tried to get their name back from us lesbians, I've a feeling this suit will be as successful.
