Peter Capaldi IS the Doctor!

What an amazing bit of casting.

Indeed - it doesn't really get better than that. I was gutted when I heard Matt was finishing, but knowing it gives Peter Capaldi the opportunity to play the part makes it a bit better. It's a shame it looks like we have to wait so long for his debut - let's hope he does a few years!

I have to admit that while I'm really happy with the casting, if I had been placing bets on this, I would not have predicted Mr. Capaldi would have accepted the role. The scripts since the show came back in 2005 seem to require a lot of physicality in the role of the Doctor, and I think Mr. Capaldi is older than I am (and I'm not entirely sure I could keep up the pace of 10 months of filming with that kind of energy if I were an actor.)

Best line of the special yesterday was Steven Moffat responding to Helen Mirren's statement that the next Doctor should be a woman: "I wish to be the first to go on record saying the Queen should be played by a man."

Colour me happy.

Surprised and delighted. Time for the BBC to give Torchwood: Children of Earth another outing. I still think Capaldi should have got a BAFTA for his performance.
