Hellboy II out on R1 DVD
Hellboy II, the best film of the year, is out on R1 DVD. There's a very nice all-included blood-from-a-stone version, with a facsimile of del Toro's journal and a lovely Golden Army soldier figure.

Buy it. Universal needs to see some cash if they're going to make the third movie. The Dark Knight eviscerated Hellboy at the box-office, for some unfathomable reason, so the DVD is where it's at.
Star Wars has been defiled, The Matrix went from the greatest movie ever to the crappiest trilogy ever in the space of six months, but everything, everything I've ever seen with the Hellboy logo on it has delivered. The original comics, the movies, the animated films, the novels, everything.
Rejoice, friends!

A bit, for very little kids, and it's del Toro, so it's got that oniric, slightly nightmarish quality that can be disturbing, but it's mostly a very funny, and very romantic, film. It's a big love story -- between monsters. It's fascinating.
Some people might simply find it silly. I think it's deeper than lots of Real Artistic Cinema About the Human Condition.
And the action kicks ass.

Not really, though it helps. The first Hellboy is a terrific film in its own right, but it's more lovecraftian horror than high fantasy (which is what the second film really is). So the first movie is great, but is in fact much scarier than the second one (for kids, I mean). It does a great job of setting up the world, and has fantastic set pieces, and the relationship between Hellboy and his flame (haha, you'll see) is wonderfully done.
The only thing, as I say, is that these two movies, though about the same characters, are wildly different in tone.

I've just spotted this thread. Must check whether Region 2 is available.
I saw the first film. I hadn't really known what to expect, but I thoroughly enjoyed that.

You're going to adore the second one.
