Gargoyles (90s cartoon)
I've just...acquired...the full run of this Disney Saturday-morning series, and it's quite a masterwork, for what it is. The animation is great, the voice cast (including half the ST:TNG regulars) are all good, and there's a surprising amount of moral ambiguity for what is, at the end of the day, a kid's show. And don't get me started on the long-term plotting - the scale of it that creator Greg Weisman (now working on the equally well-written Spectacular Spider-Man, folks) must have worked out beforehand is incredible.
A real gem, thoroughly recommended. Just a shame the sequel series, The Goliath Chronicles, was so appalling but Wiesman himself has declared it NOT CANON 0/10!, so we're good.

And, I forgot to mention, a cracking soundtrack - I've got the theme music going round and round in my head right now...

I think he may have kept the first episode of it, but the rest is happily binned yep.Colin Hicks wrote:A real gem, thoroughly recommended. Just a shame the sequel series, The Goliath Chronicles, was so appalling but Wiesman himself has declared it NOT CANON 0/10!, so we're good.
Gargoyles was a fantastic series, plenty of great stories and interesting mythology. They still play it on cable so I have a chance to see it now and then.

Re: Gargoyles (90s cartoon)
Well, either the first episode of TGC, or the first two issues of the comic series, take your pick .
Re: Gargoyles (90s cartoon)
It was, indeed, a great series. I suppose you're aware by now that a live-action film in well into preproduction over at Disney.
Now that, I could happily live without.

Really? Hadn't heard that. Hrmm, I wonder if Weisman will be involved?Sid Seadevil wrote:It was, indeed, a great series. I suppose you're aware by now that a live-action film in well into preproduction over at Disney.

I'm not altogether certain that he is, at the moment. I certainly can't imagine how well they would handle the concept without his input - so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.Zoltar wrote:Really? Hadn't heard that. Hrmm, I wonder if Weisman will be involved?

Re: Gargoyles (90s cartoon)
I remember this series fondly. They got the voices from Star Trek: TNG and the animation production folks from Batman: TAS to be the creative force behind it. Disney saw the success of Batman: TAS and wanted to copy it. The result was "Gargoyles". Disney's first series with a running storyline and an appeal aimed at a slightly older market segment.
I hope the live-action film is a good success like Pirates of the Carribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl.
