7th Doctor Joins Cast of The Hobbit
Yes, our very own Sylvester McCoy, joins the likes of Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Ken Stott and Andy Sirkis in Director Peter Jackson's two film adaptation of the Tolkien classic. McCoy will play the wizard Radagast the Brown.
Nice one Syl.

Re: 7th Doctor Joins Cast of The Hobbit
Indeed, this has been in the pipepline for a long time. A couple of months ago Sylv said he will be filming in NZ in March and May, taking a holiday in OZ in between.
He also said that the additional material being used to extend The Hobbit into 2 movies means that Radagast will feature more than Ian Holm's Bilbo did in LOTR.

That's excellent news. I'm very pleased for him. The Radagast character should be right up his street.

Re: 7th Doctor Joins Cast of The Hobbit
So let me see if I understand this- "The Hobbit" is going to be made as two movies?
Outstanding.

Yes it is. Peter Jackson was convinced it was the only way to do the adaptation full justice.

From what I've read, they plan to expand on some elements of the story and bridge the gap a bit between The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings.Patrick wrote:So let me see if I understand this- "The Hobbit" is going to be made as two movies?

Yep, blend it into a more seemless and harmonious whole with the "Rings" trilogy.

There's nowt better than the ring having a seemless whole.

Can't wait for these films. Some are expecting them to be the biggest films ever and I certainly hope that this turns out to be true. Cinema is in decline and the last few years have been fairly poor, two Hobbit movies may be able to kick-start the industry again.

Re: 7th Doctor Joins Cast of The Hobbit
Well if they maintain the standard set by the "Rings" trilogy I'll be more than happy, Youngster. Another fact worth noting is that Jackson has opted to shhot them in 3D from the outset. So it's very possible that we'll be getting a couple of movies that utilise the technology tastefully and intelligently...for a change.Johnstone McGuckian wrote:Can't wait for these films. And considering that the entire "Rings" creative team are back on board, I find it difficult to comprehending them stuffing it up. After all, they've had the advantage of mastering the problem solving for the much more creatively challenging later works first.

They've now got the greatest challenge - getting some decent acting out of a glorified spoon player!

Maybe they'll get Andy Sirkis to redub him when he has time off between Gollum's scenes!Rich Flair wrote:They've now got the greatest challenge - getting some decent acting out of a glorified spoon player!

Re: 7th Doctor Joins Cast of The Hobbit
FYI, there is a rumor circulating around the inter-webs that Sir Ian McKellan is backing away from appearing in the Hobbit movies as Gandolf.

I don't believe that for an instant. Every interview he's given he's all but confirmed outright that he'll be on board for it. I'll be very, very surprised if he's changed his stance on this.
