Rate "The Sontaran Experiment"

Departing Nerva Beacon by Transmat, the Doctor, Sarah Jane and Harry Sullivan (IS AN IDIOT!) arrive at Earth just to make sure everything is okay before the humans on the space station reclaim their home planet. Unfortunately, the Earth is occupied by a rather unpleasant Sontaran named Styre. And he's in the process of experimenting on the few remaining survivors of Earth to determine the anatomical weaknesses of the human body. Information which Styre can then exploit in furtherance of the Sontaran cause of Universal Domination.

I love this story. Bold and inventive, with a great cliffhanger. 5/5.

Although I enjoyed it, I've always felt like this was the little placeholder of a story to soften us up for the real event that was about to happen. There's just one thing I've never fully understood about this- if the Earth was nearly destroyed by a solar flair, and most of the population is gone, why would Styre be studying anatomical weaknesses of a species that's apparently vanished?

Because we know that Humanity goes to the stars, and is (in the Doctor's words) indomitable.

Although personally, I think it's just Styre being a sadist because he can be.

Not one of my personal faves, not one I ever rewatch without prompting, so just a 3/5 from me.
