As Season 17 begins, we find that the Doctor has fitted a randomizer to the TARDIS destination settings in an effort to stay one step ahead of the Black Guardian. So imagine his surprise when he and a newly-regenerated Romana (and what a let down THAT regeneration sequence was!) arrive on a bleak, featureless world the Doctor is certain he's visited before. Our Time Lord pair get separated as a result of a cave in, and Romana finds herself a captive of the Doctor's oldest foes, the Daleks. The Doctor, on the other hand, becomes a "guest" of the Daleks' greatest enemy, the Movellans, a ruthless Android species. It doesn't take long for the Doctor to realize that he has, in fact, been here before: he's on Skaro, and it seems both the Daleks and the Movellans are seeking the Daleks' creator, Davros.

A war in space that's developed into a logical stalemate because of how equally logical both sides are? Well, that's why Davros' illogic is so sought after. Both sides think he can give them the advantage over the other. So what did you think of the story that brought Davros and the Daleks back to our screens after a five year absence? EXTERMINATE? or Eliminate?

Sadly one of the worst Dalek stories of the Classic Era. Ironically, owing to the shennaigans at ITV, it got the highest ever viewing figures of a Dalek story. 2/5.

I cannot disagree with any of this. Not only was it a weak Dalek story which, unfortunately, got used as the basis for which the next three Dalek stories through the balance of the 1980s would have to spring-board off, it gave us a horrible regeneration sequence for Lalla Ward that done for nothing but laughs. Mary Tamm deserved a much better exit than she got, and Lalla Ward certainly deserved a better entrance.

I'm giving it a 2/5, but I think I'm being extraordinarily kind with that high a grade.
