All Change...........
I know that various bits and bobs seem to have been coming out in the past several weeks, but I've heard from a very reliable source today that Moff is going to sweep everything away and that we're looking at new credits, new logo, new version of the theme, new incidental music and new Tardis interior.
And new Doctor. And new companion. Obviously.

All hail the glorious triumph of Moffatism! May the running dog Daviesite revisionists be hunted down in the streets!

Well, it does make sense. He'll want to put his stamp on the whole thing. His monstrous ego will no no bounds now that he's wrenched the hot seat from RTD! And when the day-glo pink console room is revealed I can hear them now...Moffat must go!!!!
Re: All Change...........
I'm 100% looking forward to the change. With Moffat in charge, the show can only go from strength to strength.
I love this show, and waiting to see what Moffat will do with it I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.

Re: All Change...........
Given that the logo has already had several subtle permeatations and the theme changes every season slightly anyway, this news is not surprising really. That said, they were rebuilding the set anyway to get it ready for HD as the old one didn't quite cut it...

I like the Tardis as it is. Nice and warm looking.
Tell you source that it's time for a middle-aged, accordion playing companion. I know where they can get one cheap.

On the contrary. The time is ripe for a twenty-year-old companion with rainbow hair.Aspadistra wrote:

So long as it's not a 're-imagining' rather than a continuation...
I'm all for change but that sounds REALLY radical; hope the general masses will play along.

Re: All Change...........
Not that surprising although I'd been expecting the logo to remain, if in an amended form, to preserve some continuity of branding.
Re: All Change...........
To be honest, I think the current logo is a bit tired. Y'know, a bit... 2005.

Mmm, BBC Worldwide and all their licencees will want continuity of branding so I'm not expecting a completely radical re-design. Mucking about and completely changing what is now a very established brand is either an extremely brave or stupid thing to do.

The risk is alienating the new audience the show has found. Too many changes and it might strike the casual audience as a change too many. The old show went through these changes often, and wasn't unduly effected, but the current show is a totally different animal in terms of popularity. With a new Doctor, companion and producing team there are more than enough big changes as it is. Additional changes, which may not be entirely necessary as yet, will need to be handled very carefully. Personally, I'd keep things more or less the same for now, to keep that element of familiarity . The most important thing is to keep the 6-8 mill core audience, at this time of a Doctor/companion-handover, everything else is a needless luxury.

Re: All Change...........
They'll keep the logo - they don't spend five years building a brand to change the logo arbitrarily. Also, is there a reason to change the TARDIS set, rather than they've got a new show-runner? I doubt that many changes will be made - why bother alienating the audience just because a different bloke is in charge?

Re: All Change...........
New set would make sense for HD. I've heard burbling rumors online that S5 will be HD.
Logo... I would think it'd just be a tweak (and we've seen at least 3 different variants of the 'surfboard' around--silver, gold, and gold-flamey). Not so much because of the show proper, but because of the merchandise and "brand" aspects.
Though if I understand y'all correctly, the BBC doesn't *have* to pay any attention to that.
ETA - just realized Kate and others have pretty much said these on page 1

Re: All Change...........
But it will not be the same brand, will it. David Tennant will no longer be The Doctor, and that is going to alienate a lot of the audience, far more than the change from Eccleston to Tennant ever did. People will accept the change. Most people accepted the change from Jif to Cif, or Marathon becoming S******s. At least with Doctor Who the name is not changing. Now seems to be the ideal time to be bold and make a change.Rich Flair wrote:They'll keep the logo - they don't spend five years building a brand to change the logo arbitrarily.
Re: All Change...........
Why bother? What's so bold about changing an indentifiable logo, that's on thousands of products?

I agree with Rich on this. That logo has become iconically associated with the show, not with merely the actor. If you make a radical change to the logo, you then have to go back and rebuild that association, which strikes me as a bit like trying to re-invent the wheel.
There's a reason McDonald's, which holds the number one fast food restaurant status in both the US and the UK, hasn't changed it's golden arches logo in sixty years, you know.
