Interesting... I don't think I've seen a news source explore stories from the Outer Limits before. Well, maybe the Sun. But they usually claim their stories really happened. Very Happy

Bit of Alternative History Empty Re: Bit of Alternative History

Of course, the deeper question it's asking is one more common for Daily Mail articles: 'What if Andrew Roberts was completely batshit?'

First, there's the error in the Queen's age - she was 44, not 54, in 1970. Then, there's the idea that the Queen is killed in late April, and by mid-June, Wilson has decided Charles has long-term depression, introduced a Regency Act and called a General Election.

Setting aside the killing of Adams and McGuinness for no reason other than to pleasure Roberts' blood lust (like many military historians, he loves the idea of death, but is far too important to have joined the Army himself) I'm trying to work out just why Franco would invade Gibraltar when one of the few things that was keeping the Spanish economy from falling apart in the early 70s was the influx of foreign currency from tourism... Oh yes, this is Robertsworld, where everyone is on special Author Crack so they'll jump through the right hoops to make the author's point.

For a much more interesting What If? scenario about 70s Britain, may I suggest What If Gordon Banks Had Played?

Game, set and match to Mr. Barlow.

Edit: and having followed and read the link - game, set, match and better link to Mr. Barlow. Thanks, Nick, that was a great read.
