Re: Rate "Dalek"
I clicked 4/5 but I meant 5/5. I used to have a couple of little niggles about making the Daleks too powerful, but I was wrong. This is the story that repositions the Daleks as the icons of behind-the-sofa. I also like the fact that that's based on the "One Dalek is capable of exterminating all" line in The Daleks' Masterplan. It might be the greatest individual performance of the central character in one episode in the history of the show. Eccleston is astonishing.

5/5 for me. Great performances by the leads, reintroduced the Daleks exceptionally well. Loved it.

It would have been crap. Instead of which it was a triumph. 5/5.

Chris was particularly brilliant in this story- you really got the sense that he is the last survivor of the Time War. And I loved the way the story positioned the Doctor and the lone Dalek as mirror images of one another. This goes down as my personal favorite Dalek story.

Re: Rate "Dalek"
Some dodgy dialogue stops it getting a 5, specifically the Dalek's "What use are emotions if you will not save the woman you love?" , and while I approved at the time, perhaps the Doctor getting the big gun and wanting vengeance at the end was laid on a bit thick.

Re: Rate "Dalek"
The Daleks back where they should be, and The Doctor on shaky moral ground but reminded of his better nature by a human companion. It's very close to perfect, so it gets a 5.
Re: Rate "Dalek"
Garners full marks for the sheer power and intensity of Eccelston's performance. (and a special nod to Nick Brigg's - whose well-judged vocal performances are all too often overlooked and underappreciated).

What made this story so poignant at the time was the knowledge that this was probably the best we were ever going to get from Eccleston's Doctor, because we all knew that he had already left the series, and this incarnation was already a dead man walking.

One of my all-time favourites.
