10 Classic "Who" Stories New Fans Should Catch
I came across a link yesterday that I thought I out to share. A website calling itseld Geeks Of Doom had posted a blog entry recommending 10 classic Doctor Who stories to new fans. The theory is that fans of "new" Doctor Who, who've only ever Chris Eccleston, David Tennant or Matt Smith in the Role, should check out these essential adventures of Doctors prior to Mr. Ecceleston. If you click the link I provided above, you can read his reasoning behind his selections, and actually makes some interesting points.
But for summary, these are his choices:
The Daleks (W. Hartnell)
The Dalek Invasion of Earth (W. Hartnell)
The Mind Robber (P. Troughton)
The War Games (P. Troughton)
The Time Warrior (J. Pertwee)
The Pyramids of Mars (T. Baker)
City of Death (T. Baker)
Earthshock (P. Davison)
Revelation of the Daleks (C. Baker)
Remembrance of the Daleks (S. McCoy)
So, what would your list of essential classic "Who" stories be to introduce to someone who's only ever known the RTD/Moff era of the show?
And while you're thinking, here's a picture offered for your enjoyment:

Re: 10 Classic "Who" Stories New Fans Should Catch
On the basis that this can only be stories which exist in full, and assuming that each Doctor from 1-7 is to be represented then I'd go with.
The Daleks. You really have to see their first appearance.
Tomb of the Cybermen. Not the best Troughton, but it's all there and still bloody good.
The Daemons. The seminal UNIT/Master story.
Seeds of Doom. Atypical Tom, but simply the best classic story evah.
Talons of Weng Chiang. The triumphant culmination of Hinchcliffe/Holmes era.
City of Death. Who wit at its finest.
The Five Doctors. Watch it as first broadcast. It's a wonderful celebratory romp.
Caves of Androzani. The best 80's story, and possibly the finest directed evah.
Trial of a Time Lord eps 5 - 8. A perfect reflection of how things were. Watch complete with continuity announcements.
Remembrance of the Daleks. Still hard to believe such goodness could be produced on a shoestring. Also nice to top and tail the 10 with Skaro's finest.

Re: 10 Classic "Who" Stories New Fans Should Catch
There are a number of such lists. I like the suggestions from the list and CO. Agree that's excellent photoshopping.
Any such list I would start with An Unearthly Child, the proper episode by that title mind, not the succeeding 3 eps usually placed with it. It might also help one feel invested in the series if one feels they've been from the opening. Agree with The Daleks. Apart from the stretching out of the cave parts, it's not near as bad as often slagged for, with fine performances from the principals, especially considering the pocket change budget and absence of multiple takes and edits etc. I would not agree with Dalek Invasion of Earth; iconic to be sure but there is also a lot for a new viewer to laugh at. Have any of you an idea how The Aztecs goes over today? I should like to suggest it to point up what the classic series offers one won't find in the newer. Such a pity Marco Polo doesn't exist.
Troughton is a difficult proposition for picking a best. So much Troughton is missing or incomplete whereas The War Games is the extreme opposite in being huge. Pertwee... Spearhead From Space, The Ambassadors of Death or The Daemons. I'd lean to Talons of Weng Chiang over Pyramids of Mars. Not sure after that which I'd pick besides Caves of Androzani. Agree with closing on Remembrance of the Daleks, a true diamond in the rough.
