A local thread for local people
"Oh, you're my wife now..."
The League of Gentlemen: my favourite comedy show ever, and, on some days, my favourite show ever, even beating Doctor Who. Dark and nasty, with a core of pathos, faultlessly performed, eminently quotable and never stops being funny.
Shame the film was crap, but you can't have 'em all.
Thoughts?

I'm going to moderate this thread. Oh yes. We'll have no trouble here.

The Christmas special was the apex of the programme, it was just pitch perfect. The third season tried too hard and was a bit of a failure in my eyes. The DVD of the panto is good as well. The League are also in top form doing a commentary for the film "Blood on Satan's Claw" a fantastic 70's British horror.

Yes, yes and yes to all that. The Christmas special was utterly wonderful and BBC2 should get them back every year to do a one off for Christmas. The Frank household has a list of Christmas themes programmes that are shown each year to fill in the gaps of television schedule proper and LoG is one of those programmes. It shares that status with a Christmas episode of Crossroads so you can see that matters of taste veer off in all directions once we've got gallons of wine down us.
A missed opportunity there for the BBC to get them back each Xmas, me thinks. The third series was patchy but did have some superb self-contained episodes within it. Both the Panto and the Drury Lane DVDs are excellent. I was lucky to see both live shows in Manchester.
Re: A local thread for local people
Totally agree on Series 3. The concept was admirable, but the execution was hit-and-miss. And I wasn't that keen on all the new characters - Dean Tavalouris, Dr Crabtree, the debt collectors, and the doorstep religous nutters were great, but the couple with the showbiz kid were crap, and MaxiPower, while funny, was a little bit mean spirited, even by Gents standards.

I've only ever watched bits of it. It scared the proverbial out of me.

I'm still overly proud of the day I said " It's a local sign for local stores" which was a) a completely correct statement in context and b) amused the visiting manager and completely escaped my manager.
