The Doctor and Sarah Jane return to Earth, but in 1911. The TARDIS arrives in the home of sibling scientists Laurence and Marcus Scarman. Laurence desperately needs the Doctor's help, since his brother has been behaving very oddly ever since returning from an archaeological dig in Egypt. To confuse matters further, Laurence has begun detecting strange radio signals from the surface of Mars. The Doctor discovers that Marcus has become the avatar on Earth of Sutekh, a powerful alien Osirian imprisoned centuries earlier by his people for his terrible crimes. Animated mummies begin wandering around the Scarman estate. And forcefield of some sort has cut the estate off from the outside world. And now Sutekh is using Marcus to regain his freedom, and herald the end of the world.
Our season of gothic influences continues... So what did you think of The Doctor and Sarah Jane's quick trip to Egyptology and pyramid power?

Re: Rate "The Pyramids Of Mars"
Throughout 2013, BBC-America devoted the last Sunday night every month to profiling a particular Doctor as part of the build-up to the big 50th Anniversary celebration. In April, when they got to Tom Baker's turn to be profiled, I was a bit surprised that they had chosen "Pyramids Of Mars" as the story which they felt best epitomised the Tom Baker years. I should say that I think Steven Moffat had something to do with its selection, as he introduced the story.
It is a brilliant story, made even nicer by the fantastic chemistry we've established between Sarah Jane and the Doctor. Creepy gothic elements, a possessed mad scientist, lots of grisly deaths, and at the end of the chase, the living god Sutekh. I just love the gem from the early Baker years. 5/5.
