Re: The new companion
Well, it looks as if the Michelle Ryan rumour is doing the rounds again in the newspapers and on Digital Spy. Whilst I think that she is a good actress, and I have enjoyed everything I have seen her in, I just cannot see here as the Companion in Doctor Who. I just wish that they would cast her in a prominent role in the series, one which would finally mean that she could never become the Companion, and kill this rumour permanently.
Re: The new companion
Unless she was in a role where she - and everyone who might vaguely look like her in the whole and time and space - was killed, and Moffat appeared afterwards like Krusty with a promise she would never return, she'd still end up in the Shiny Sally Sparklypoo 'wouldn't she make a good companion?' club.
Re: The new companion
Not a cat in hell's chance of it being Ryan.

Re: The new companion
I have an irrational feeling that we are due for one of the BBC's infamous Midnight Press Releases, and we will know whether it is or is not Miss Ryan by this time tomorrow. The Co=Ordinator wrote:Not a cat in hell's chance of it being Ryan.

Re: The new companion
You are quite right. And even if they killed her character off, there would still be calls to bring her back. Some deluded individual has started a "bring back Ross" thread on the DWF.Nick Barlow wrote:she'd still end up in the Shiny Sally Sparklypoo 'wouldn't she make a good companion?' club.
Re: The new companion
Well, Lady Christina will always be a "was she/was she not" companion. She'll be in the "wouldn't she have made a good companion" club like Sally Sparrow and some others for good. I just don't see Moffat taking any of RTD's stuff and hornshoeing it in. I think Moffat will create his own Doctor-Companion characters and relationships. It's Moffat's show now and he'll do his own thing with it.
Now, weren't they supposed to announce the companion this weekend? Any news?

Re: The new companion
That was a rumour. I'd have thought they'll try keeping it under wraps until shooting concludes on the specials.

Re: The new companion
Filming on S4 starts in 10 weeks or so, so they've got no reason to announce it yet. I don't think The Moff feels the need to let anybody know what's going on, he has the quaint notion of allowing the viewers to find things out when they watch it on the telly.

Re: The new companion
TGM's problem will be that unless he sticks purely to Upper Boat and private sites/facilities, there's no way he'll be able to keep everything under wraps.
And let's be fair, we know bugger all about The Waters of Mars. Except the ending. Which, I suppose, is a bit bizarre really.

Re: The new companion
All I know about it I got from a few set reports (the ending) and the trailer at the end of 'Planet of the Dead' (some of the earlier bits).

Re: The new companion
Well, Lizo Mzimbe twittered from the BAFTA Ceremony, saying that Hannah Murray had just denied that she was the next companion. So the hunt is still on. Here is my current dream team.
Re: The new companion
Well she's not going to say "Oh yes Lizo, I am & can't wait to start filming in July", is she?

Re: The new companion
But surely her reply should have been "No Comment" if she had been cast, and was covering. The Co=Ordinator wrote:Well she's not going to say "Oh yes Lizo, I am & can't wait to start filming in July", is she?

Re: The new companion
The source for the Hannah Murray info is the same person who said nearly a year ago that the Easter Special would feature a bus stuck in a desert filmed in Arabia. He was poo pooed and castigated, and yet was spot on.
However he also said that Chewie was the 11th Doctor.
So it's up in the air, but personally speaking I'll believe him until he's proven right or wrong.

Was that source also the elephant sat on top of the TARDIS/Paul McGann source?

Re: The new companion
I wonder if they approached Hannah Murray and had talks with her, but in the end she decided she wanted to concentrate on finishing her degree? It would fit with the rumours and I can imagine that it wouldn't have been an easy decision for her.
If that is the case, I wonder if they'll try and find another actress to play the same character, or rework her into something different so they can then bring Murray in after she's graduated?
