Myths and Legends Box Set
How about this for the most bonkers, barking must can't miss Box Set of all time!
Doctor Who - Myths and Legends Box set containing three stories rooted in legends and myths: The Horns of Nimon, Underworld and The Time Monster.
I kid you not! Verrily I say that the lunatics have taken over the asylum.

Re: Myths and Legends Box Set
After the exercise in sub-literate cod-scientific pretentious adolescent tedium that was The E-Space Trilogy that box-set'd be welcome relief. Fun? Bring it on!
Apart from 'The Time Monster', obviously...

Re: Myths and Legends Box Set
Google isn't giving anything solid about this, so I'm hoping it's a joke.
Where did you hear it?
ETA: Ah. Zeta Minor.
I'll say no more .

Re: Myths and Legends Box Set
Julian Knott has come up with it, and I have no reason to doubt him - he wouldn't post it as 'incoming' unless he was certain.

Re: Myths and Legends Box Set
*boggles*
Now I'm confused.
Not just beacuse of my personal dislike for two of these three - it completely throws out most of my Grand Theory of this year's release schedule.

Re: Myths and Legends Box Set
That is an odd set! I guess there is a connection of sorts, but I feel sorry for the unsuspecting New-Who-fan-and-ancient-literature-student who picks this up thinking it would be a fun way to get into Old Who!
I think I'll wait for it to get really cheap before I replace my VHS copies. Really, really cheap.

Re: Myths and Legends Box Set
Now that makes more sense - although it still blows one leg out of my Grand Theory. Specifically, the last bit.

God, that'll be one for the sales then. Wake me up when it's going for a tenner at Play.com.

I like The Time Monster. I can't remember the other two, so what a treat!

Re: Myths and Legends Box Set
It's the perfect way to justify releasing a trio of utterly (well not entirely utterly, I have a soft spot for Time Monster) sub par stories, which would otherwise sink into near zero profit oblivion if released individually.*

Re: Myths and Legends Box Set
The Time Monster is a pretty good four-parter. Shame it's stretched over six episodes, really...
As for the others, I rather like Nimon, for all its faults, but Underworld is possibly the most boring story made after the 1960s.

Mr Q. You appear to have missed a word out after "utterly".

My thanks Mr C=O. Actually I missed out two words (but they were only short words - and I was sans my specs). The Co=Ordinator wrote:Mr Q. You appear to have missed a word out after "utterly".

Re: Myths and Legends Box Set
I think Nimon's much better than its reputation, and its suffered somewhat from having been the last Williams/Adams story, so it's seen as a reflection of the whole era when it was never intended that way. It's good fun, would have been a brilliant story to watch over the Xmas period and is one of the few stories to have seen the ratings rise week-by-week (part 4 had almost double the viewers of part 1).
The Time Monster is just a bit silly, and feels like someone wanted to do 'epic' but decided that 'stuff happens, then some other stuff happens, and if there's a budget left then some more stuff will happen' would do instead of an actual plot.
There is no story called Underworld. It's a myth in itself, it never happened, and I can't believe you've fallen for that old joke, created by fans in the 70s to exemplify all the cliches of the worst episode ever. Clever that they've said it'll be appearing on this DVD, though.

got to be more fun than the e-space trilogy- just make sure you have a bottle of wine or a big spliff when you watch them

Re: Myths and Legends Box Set
I'd only really want Nimon from those three. I suppose we have to be glad that The Myth Makers is missing in action, because it would probably have gone on there.
It probably won't be bought. I think I've reached the maximum amount of Pertwee that Natalie will allow in the house.

I'd rather have the audio of the Mythmakers than at least two of the releases on this boxset.stanmore wrote:I'd only really want Nimon from those three. I suppose we have to be glad that The Myth Makers is missing in action, because it would probably have gone on there.

Praising with faint damnation, surely? The Myth Makers is bloody good...
Re: Myths and Legends Box Set
I'd have 'The Myth Makers' in my all-time Who top five. My favourite Target, as well...
Re: Myths and Legends Box Set
Perhaps one of the extras could be a full Cosgrove Hall version of The Myth Makers. Perhaps on the Underworld disk. Which doesn't really need to have Underworld on it.

Re: Myths and Legends Box Set
If these three stories were released singly I know that I would feel no excitement or great desire to buy them and yet, since reading yesterday of this putative release, I have felt a strange and growing attraction towards the idea of such a boxset. I don't know why and am actually starting to feel slightly worried...

Re: Myths and Legends Box Set
I'm certain I'm in the minority here, but of those three, The Time Monster is probably the only one I have any kind of interest in seeing again. Well, I say 'interest.' That's a relative term.
I think I shall pass on this one.
