Re: Rate 'Planet of the Dead'
I thought it was good fun and a nice treat for the holiday, though Ryan was rather wooden. 4/5 from me.
Re: Rate 'Planet of the Dead'
And going back to the topic in hand, I thought that was much better than "The Next Doctor".
Some excellent humour, very cleverly juxtaposed with darkness and warnings of what is to come. CGI was a bit ropey in parts, but then the demands & ambition were far in excess of what we should probably expect. And for me Lee Evans comfortably stole the show!
So that's a happy, smiling 4/5.

As correct as correct can be. And, yes, Evans was good.

Re: Rate 'Planet of the Dead'
Really enjoyed the Tritovores. They worked well on screen, cleverly designed spaceship, sad ending. Very good stuff.
Hopefully the overnight ratings will be good, though I guess the opening night of Britains Got Talent may well top it.

Re: Rate 'Planet of the Dead'
Worst special yet. Weak characterisation, no depth, no jeopardy, danger or excitement and the minimum of laughs. Lee Evans managed to keep me interested, but only just. Makes The Next Doctor seem like The Christmas Invasion.
The next one looks better.

Oh, I don't know. The sfx were good. I liked the space stingrays, but hated the explanation of how they generated a wormhole. It lacked the suspense of other episodes, but that's the beauty of Doctor Who - it is allowed so many different story formats. This one was a good romp.
You'll get your gravitas in the finale they're shooting now.

Re: Rate 'Planet of the Dead'
I've never actually required gravitas to enjoy Doctor Who, and don't particularly look forward gravitas appearing. I do, however, require a bit of humour and a few to characters to like. Maybe also a bit of suspense and a scare.
The next one does look better. Though perhaps the CO is right - maybe it won't be!

I don't know why, maybe it's the set reports/photos, but I don't have as good a feeling about the next one as I do the past two and the last two. At least they have more post-production time on it.
How many of y'all watched in HD? Was it any better in HD (and I'm only talking visuals here)?

actually planet of the dead had a lot of sand- so it was gritty. it wasn't dark though. and it didn't have gravitas.

It was dark when they were doing the night shoots at Butetown Tunnel & down Lloyd George Avenue. And very wet.

Just about 4/5. I enjoyed it but can't see me wanting to watch it all that often. I probably should have voted 3/5, average. I really liked both types of alien.

Gravitas and water make Gravytas. With dark and gritty lumps.
I thoroughly enjoyed that. Loved the little reference to Midnight, and I thought the flying stingrays were neat. So how's this for a new spinoff series: The Adventures of Lady Christina and her Flying No. 200 Bus.
Knock four times- wasn't that how many taps the Master used, in rhythm, during The Sound of Drums?
