Will the Matt Smith series appeal to the over-40s?
I'd be interested to know what OW posters think about this. After all Matt Smith is the youngest ever Doctor and Karen Gillan is barely into her 20s. Will there be anything to appeal to older viewers?

Having been ambivalent until recently, I have to say that the trailers look very good. There's a real retro feel to the sci-fi element.
Having felt somewhat let down by the "Specials", which IMO ultimately failed to deliver what they promised, I sincerely hope I enjoy the series.

Their ages don't mean anything to me. I never cared how old the actors were before, I'm not going to start now.
So far, all but one of the trailers have been enjoyable and I like what I've seen of the two leads. Can't wait for it to start.

Haven't seen anything so far to make me think there will be any problem with Matt or the new series -- looks delightful so far (at least from my vantage point at the farther end of 50's)

William Hartnell appealed to me. Why shouldn't Matt Smith appeal to the over-forties?
And Amy Pond will appeal to any heterosexual male or homosexual female of any age.

Absolutly......I enjoyed Waters...excellent take on a atypical story delivered brilliantly by Phil and brilliantly directed by oor Graeham.
EOT and POTD failed to deliver on most levels...some great dialogue, some cracking scenes but didnt hold together.
Really showd how tired Russell was of it.
I am actually properly really excited by the trailers and what Iv seen..
Regardless on how hard its been to make or what may or may not have gone on behind the scenes, all that matters it the final vision......Im sure it was compromised by budget, by senior execs etcs, but as Moff says, the show and the best ideas in 63 was born out of budget limitations and creativity.
Moff seems to understand this implicitly.
Vashta....er nothing there......
Something in the cracks?
Statues that move when your not looking....genius.
Im sure he will deliver in spades and then some......and that this series will astound the American market.
I AM LITERALLY SQUEEEEEEING.
*composes himself*
sorry.
and delighted we...or I, know very little....
whats the titles and theme like? cant wait....

Will the new series appeal to the over-forties? Who cares? Will it appeal to eight-year-olds is the important question - it's their programme...
Re: Will the Matt Smith series appeal to the over-40s?
I don't care who it appeals to - it certainly appealed to me!
Re: Will the Matt Smith series appeal to the over-40s?
Darling, I'm hurtling towards 50. And it appeals to me. Matt may be younger but look at that utterly Doctorish performance he's just given us. Love him already. He's going to be great.

Appeal to over-40 types? Let's broaden the question to "will it appeal to adults, generally?" And for an answer, let's point to a certain thread at GB about how the new time rotor is "rude." I'll let you decide.

I'm loving the new series 'sex toy agenda' - let's hope there are sightings of dildos in the library and butt plugs in the swimming pool
Re: Will the Matt Smith series appeal to the over-40s?
some folks seemed to worry it would be pants - and we get a scene with the Doctor without them -- (;-)
Matt's doing a great job, and he has good writing to work with -- greatly appealing to me - and I'm well heading past the 50 -
well done Matt!

Well, in a few weeks I will be 55, and I absolutely loved it.. I think the age of the viewer is irrelevant really.. I used to know someone who loved watching The Magic Roundabout, and he was in his 70s at the time..
