Re: Series 6 Build Up (Was First official trailer for Series 6)
As I don't have the time to go through all 1440 frames individually has the collected wisdom of fandom spotted anything to get speculatively over-excited about? There's the obvious 'Hugh Bonneville is the Black Guardian's son in a remake of Enlightenment' one, but I'm hoping more for the 'there's a blurred figure in the background of one frame that's clearly Paul McGann' style speculation...

An appearance by the previous console room? Sweet.

You know, I'm almost certain that there's a blurred figure in the background of one frame that's clearly Paul McGann.
Other than that - bring it on!

Shall we do a sweepstake on how many times Amy's going to be horrible to Rory? I'm going to go for 44 times.

In a single episode? I can believe that.stanmore wrote:Shall we do a sweepstake on how many times Amy's going to be horrible to Rory? I'm going to go for 44 times.

It'll probably be 44 minute-long instances of Amy being horrible to Rory in the first episode...

Re: Series 6 Build Up (Was First official trailer for Series 6)
We could have a contest - will the number of times she's horrible to Rory be more or less than the number of times River Song does something annoying?
Re: Series 6 Build Up (Was First official trailer for Series 6)
That works for me. It will probably be a damned close run thing though.Nick Barlow wrote:We could have a contest - will the number of times she's horrible to Rory be more or less than the number of times River Song does something annoying?

Re: Series 6 Build Up (Was First official trailer for Series 6)
I'm afraid that won't work as there will be so many instances of both that we will all lose count and be unable to decide the winner.Nick Barlow wrote:We could have a contest - will the number of times she's horrible to Rory be more or less than the number of times River Song does something annoying?

We could probably work it how by answering "who was in the greater number of scenes?"

Honestly, I can't believe this idea hasn't occurred to anyone yet: make a drinking game out of it. Every time Amy is horrible to Rory, take a good strong pull on whatever sparkling adult beverage you have. Everytime River does something annoying, take a good strong pull. Then, the next morning, see how much of the episode you can recall from memory. If it's more than 50% gone, you have your rating.

For once, I actually see some real merit in one of your hare-brained suggestions.Patrick wrote:Honestly, I can't believe this idea hasn't occurred to anyone yet: make a drinking game out of it. Not as many times as the online fan community complains about these slights though.Nick Barlow wrote:We could have a contest - will the number of times she's horrible to Rory be more or less than the number of times River Song does something annoying?
Oh, for the days when the Wrinklies actually liked Doctor Who. No wonder I don't come here much any more.

Lee old chap, I more than certainly still like - nay, make that love Doctor Who. And I'm certainly sure I'm far from alone in feeling that way in Wrinklydom. That doesn't mean for a moment that I'm averse to taking an affectionate poke at it in all its myriad forms every now and again - as in this instance.Lee Carey wrote:Not as many times as the online fan community complains about these slights though.

After all if we, the fans, can't have a gentle giggle at some aspects of the series whether classic or new then who can? Besides, surely by poking fun at such things we're ultimately also poking fun at ourselves and our own foibles in the process.

I don't like Doctor Who, I love it and have for many years, just like everyone else here. Doesn't make it into a sacred cow immune to a little humor or criticism.Lee Carey wrote:Oh, for the days when the Wrinklies actually liked Doctor Who. No wonder I don't come here much any more.

A little humour I don't mind, but a constant stream directed at one source? To quote Morrissey, "That joke isn't funny anymore."Zoltar wrote:I don't like Doctor Who, I love it and have for many years, just like everyone else here. Fair enough. Many companion characters have divided fandom in the past though, that doesn't mean people who mock Adric or don't like Rose no longer like Doctor Who.Lee Carey wrote:A little humour I don't mind, but a constant stream directed at one source?
