So, Series 3 began last night for those of you on the other side of the pond. Since we won't get it until January 19th, anyone want to post some thoughts on how they resolved the cliffhanger of Sherlock seemingly surviving a nose-dive to the concrete? I'm not looking for a spoiler here, just an impression of how well you think they pulled it off.

They took an interesting approach. Everybody I've spoken to in real life loved it, everybody I've spoken to online has thought otherwise. I agree with real life and that it's as brilliant as you'd expect fro, Sherlock. It's fantastic to see such a consistently good series.

As long as the two year wait for the resolution of the cliffhanger moment felt like it was worth it, I'll be happy. In the meantime, until premiere night on January 19th, I'll have to live through two Sundays of Downtown Abbey Season 4.

Thanks, Johnstone. I'll survive this soapy onslaught somehow.

As much as I loved the last series of Sherlock, there were time when I was screaming at the screen, especially during His Final Vow, "Its the cases stupid!". OK, so in a twenty-first century drama the back story is important, but not when it comes in the way of the investigations. After all, isn't the investigations are what most people want when they watch a dramatisation of a Sherlock Holmes story?

This is what I don't get...

There were cases. In the wedding episode, there were several. In the final episode there was a standard Holmes story with a slight twist. It's all there.

So why are people harrumphing about it?

Good question. I thought "His Final Vow" was a tremendous episode. Fantastic character moments all around, with a nice hook to keep us baited until Series 4. Perhaps not as good a cliff hanger as last season's, but certainly worthy.
