In what would begin a tradition that carried through much of Season 9 as well, the Time Lords use the Doctor as a "galactic yo-yo" for the first time.  Here, they send him to a human colony world in the year 2471, where the colonists are being ravaged by a strange, dinosaur-esque creature while at the same time facing harassment from a group of miners trying to force them off the planet.  But solving these problems isn't the real reason for the Time Lords' temporary gift of time travel.  The Doctor's real reason for being there becomes apparent when his arch-nemesis arrives, seeking a legendary doomsday machine, thought to be located in the ruins at the outskirts of colony.

So, what did you think of this six part story that served as the penultimate adventure for Season 8?

A 6 part runaround. One or two very good bits help it just get 3/5.

You are a bit more generous than I, C=O. It's always puzzled me that it seems like, after a season of earthbound stories in Season 7, the production seems to have lost the knack of how to make a story set on a different world in the future. Lots of pointless running around is the result. 2/5 from me.
