One of the worst classic stories there is. 45 minutes of no plot followed by a pointless and unexplained ending, all just so a new companion could be introduced.

It's accomplished enough, just very forgettable. There's nothing really wrong with it, but there's nothing right about it either. Almost the epitome of a 3/5.

I think it's a lovely little diversion after a long, epic Dalek story. It has some very good lines as well as I remember. It is a little inconsequential and not terribly complicated, but it's a nice way to introduce Vicki and there's some good character moments with Vicki's pet monster and inviting her onboard at the end. 4/5 for me as I always enjoy it. I've given it 4/5. I haven't seen it since its original transmission and found it rather better than I expected from its reputation. It really is a character piece and introduction for Vicki so the very slight plot doesn't matter, particurly as it doesn't try to stretch itself beyond the two episodes it just about warrants. Some moments grate but they are more than compensated for by the good stuff. And yes, Hartnell is great in this. This foursome is one of my favourite Tardis combinations. It might be my absolute favourite if I felt able to be quite that definite about the matter...! Laughing

A nice introduction to Vicky. The central "mystery" is about as mysterious as looking at yourself in the shaving mirror first thing in the morning, and Ray Barrett is criminally ill-used - but its still enjoyable.
