Not as scary as I expected, but sadder. I wonder if The Doctor is going to be a psycho throughout his last two episodes?

A brilliant and easy 5/5. And I didn't think I was going to enjoy this one

The Doctor becomes as big a megalomaniac as The Master. Who'd have thunk it?

One of the finest Doctor Who stories of all-time, just superb all-round. Writing, acting, music, lighting, sound, direction. And now we know precisely why the BBC needed an 8 or 9 year old German speaker.

This was perhaps the most character driven story we've seen in the RTD era, and after Midnight, that's saying something. The Doctor decides to re-define what a fixed point in time is, and start acting like an anti-hero. And the result is a potential future companion who commits suicide.

Very dark subject matter, really. In fact, 2009 may well be considered the year of the anti-heroes in the Whoniverse: first Captain Jack, and now the Doctor. There's a message in that. And I'm content to leave it to Ol' Coxy to work it out and contribute his findings to a future edition of Celestial Toyroom.

The Doctor is in the anger phase of the five states of grief. Grief over his own impending death. The first stage is denial. Anger comes next. Then comes bargaining, depression and acceptance. Watching for these in the next two specials should be interesting.

Not since Logopolis have we had a Doctor go into the final stages of his regeneration knowing what is to come. And the differences between how Tom and David handle this knowledge are quite stark. And look who's returning to facilitate the transition... Peoples of the universe, please attend carefully: RTD knows his Whovian lore quite well.

An excellent set up piece. I give it top marks.

The Doctor's long been an anti-hero. This was like trying to become a god. There are, and should be, some limits to how far even he can defy the universe...even for the best of reasons.

Fantastic stuff, and many excellent performances within. I look forward to watching it again.

I read through some of them and then eventually gave up, life's too short.

The review for CT is done, so I can finally opinionate and read the opinions of others! Yay!

I enjoyed it. A lot. One of the Not We I watched it with decided that The Doctor "going mad" was lame. It turned out that during the show, the Not We had been ignoring everything but the pretty colours.

And, I dunno about Logopolis. I can see more shades of Pertwee's finale. That was aboiut hubris, I think the next specials will be too.

You may very well have a point there. I'll be interested to see. I was simply counting what, on the surface, appear to be similarities to Logopolis:
- The Doctor appears to be confronting the circumsantances of his regeneration knowing it's coming.
- He appears to have someone advising him about the regeneration (The Watcher in Logopolis, Ood Sigma in the forthcoming story)
- The Master returns, and appears to have a hand in the circumstances of the regeneration
- In Logopolis, the Doctor was "vain enough to think it was me was after." In the set-up to the forthcoming regeneration story, the Doctor gave into hubris. Both are character flaws.

The good news is we have about six weeks to carry on this discussion.

Tremendously enjoyed the Waters of Mars. Hugely loved the ending- looking forward to seeing where the Doctor goes from here. Surely Tennant and Duncan's performances were two of the finest ever seen on Doctor Who?

The absolute worst part of this is the fact that we have to wait five-and-a-half weeks for The End of Time- loved the trailer, but this is the Utopia effect multiplied by five.

Christ, I'm going to miss Tennant when the time comes.
