More than 6 years on, how do you rate "Rose"?
Rate "Rose"
Yes folks, your chance to rate the the RTD era up to Journey's End starts with Series 1 episode 1. Each poll will be open for 2 weeks, or 14 days for those of you still using old money.
So, just what do you think of the story that brought Doctor Who back? UK Broadcast date 26th March 2005.

Re: Rate "Rose"
Remarkable, but many rewatches have seen it downgraded to nearly remarkable. As the first episode of the new series it's swaggeringly confident; funny, heartfelt and entertaining. Russell manages to communicate how brilliant Dr Who can be to the wider audience instaneously. As one story in over 200, it's a little inconsequential...

Re: Rate "Rose"
I too have given it 4/5. RTD did a great job in re-introducing Doctor Who in just 43 minutes.

Re: Rate "Rose"
I can join the 4/5 consensus here. I saw it again on Watch a few weeks ago, and while it's surpassed by other episodes of Who, as a pilot it's one of the best ever made, and the sort of thing that should be given to all TV writers with the message 'this is how you do it' attached.
Which is remarkable, really, considering that it consists entirely of burping wheelie bins, gay innuendo and whatever else people were complaining about back then.

Re: Rate "Rose"
5/5
It reintroduced Doctor Who without drowning in a sea of continuity. Everything the TVM should have been but wasn't. Although the passing years have dulled some of its initial impact, Rose is still the textbook example of how to bring an old show back successfully.

Re: Rate "Rose"
It gets a 4/5 from me as well. It feels a brand new show while still being Doctor Who, an excellent jumping on point for legions of fans new and old.

Back then? There are those that the new series has been one perpetual cycle of burping wheelie bins!

As a pilot 5/5; as an episode of DW 3/5. So I can't really disagree with the general view -
4/5.
4/5.

Re: Rate "Rose"
Gave it 4/5.
Really did not like the burping bin, though (at the time) I reckoned that it was a sly allusion to the daleks.
Hated Auton Mickey.
Loved Eccleston. Nearly wept at the 'earth turning' speech. You know what? It felt as though I'd had my childhood returned to me.

I think that 'wonder ' happened many times throughout series 1 for me, culminating in the genius of Bad Wolf & POTW.

It hits the ground running, literally! Anyone wishing to bring back an old TV show should watch this and take very copious notes first. Brilliant stuff and it'll always be re watchable. 4/5 from me too.

Re: Rate "Rose"
I decided up front to be one of the last ones to contribute to this thread. This is because I had no idea Doctor Who had been brought back to life. In fact, it would be a year after the release of Rose in the UK, in March 2006, before I'd even get the chance to see it.
As a vehicle to re-introduce the show, Rose was a brilliant story. Just jettison all the back-story exposition, make a note to get it to it later, in a more dramatic fashion, and get on with it. I was hooked. I was grinning happily at seeing the Autons again. And seeing that blue box for the first time, as Rose ran by it, was near magical.
Viewing it now, several years later, it's an okay story that would be surpassed by tales that were yet to come. But taken as the way to re-launch the franchise, it gets a solid four from me.
