Series 2 started the trend of the "Doctor-lite" stories. In this first story to feature very little of the Doctor, we meet Elton, who is plagued as an adult by a chance childhood encounter with the Doctor.

Re: Rate "Love And Monsters"
5/5, obviously - RTD brilliantly writes around all the limitations imposed on him, and the script is one of the best examples in TV of an unreliable narrator.
Re: Rate "Love And Monsters"
Elton: When you're a kid, they tell you it's all "grow up. Get a job. Get married. Get a house. Have a kid, and that's it". But the truth is, the world is so much stranger than that. It's so much darker. And so much madder. And so much better.
I remember seeing this episode for the first time with little or no knowledge of it. Didn't know it was going to be a "Doctor-lite" or any of that, just sat down and watched it. What a surprise it was, like no DW episode I'd ever seen before. I love an unreliable narrator, it's a great device. It was used to excellent effect here.
5/5 from me as well.

Re: Rate "Love And Monsters"
Wrinklydom has always had a special place for L&M, so I'm not suprised to see it rating so well (to date anyway).
So offbeat, so strange, and the paving slab as well. I've given it 4/5.

Re: Rate "Love And Monsters"
Who am I to argue with the C=O's assessment of the special place we Wrinklies hold L&M? Elton as the narrator of the story; Offbeat, quirky characters. Jackie Tyler for once showing us there's more to her than a first impression glance might reveal. And our first big walk down memory lane of all those alien invasions of the last two years.
Brilliant stuff. 5/5
