Re: And on that Bombshell...Top Gear
Two episodes into the new series and we've gleaned a couple of important messages:
The car to put on your bucket list, if you have to have a supercar that isn't a Ferrari, is the Lamborghini Aventador. Everyone should have a V-12 powered supercar at some point in their life.
And, the Chinese aren't particularly good at inventing themselves, but they are exceptionally good at making cheap, knock-off copies of things other people invented.
Actually, so far, I'm rather enjoying this series.

Chinese "attack" Stig was good, but watching Hammond and Clarkson direct a movie car chase has to have been on of the funniest things I've seen in a while.

It appears the only new episode this year will be the Christmas Special.

Re: And on that Bombshell...Top Gear
I give you this picture of Richard Hammond...
...on fire.
No, this wasn't an accident, and no, he didn't need to be hospitalized in a burn unit. The Hamster is currently filming the second series of his made-for-BBC America television show "Crash Course." The premise of the show is that he has five days to learn some sort of dangerous job, and in the episode that picture was captured from, he's in L.A., learning to be a stunt man. Apparently, in the same episode, he jumps off a bridge.

Re: And on that Bombshell...Top Gear
So, anyone want to describe for those of us on this side of the pond last night's Top Gear James Bond special? I'm guessing we won't be seeing it until the next series of Top Gear is ready to make its way over here, but I would like to hear if this special is worth an hour of one's evening.

Did anyone watch the Top Gear special on Bond's vehicles? BBC-America has begun airing spots for it- it's to be transmitted Monday, Nov. 12th.

Yep.
And no spoilers. Shhh. It contains cars.

Re: And on that Bombshell...Top Gear
Well, I liked the Top Gear James Bond special. I did kind of miss the old Lotus Esprit, and I couldn't wait to hear what Hammond was going to have to say about Pierce Brosnan's collections of BMW's.
What I loved hearing about was the letter sent to Ian Fleming from a reader who suggested he replace Bond's old Bentley with "a decent piece of machinery, such as an Aston Martin DB3". I never knew about that, but in the novel Goldfinger, that's just what Fleming did, and for them movie Goldfinger, they just updated it for the times with a DB5. And a legend was born.

Re: And on that Bombshell...Top Gear
It has been announced that the new series of Top Gear is scheduled to premiere to UK audiences on Sunday, January 27th.
Now, this news had me quite happy, for it meant said new series would likely reach this side of the pond in short order. Unfortuately, yesterday, I saw an anouncement that the new season of Top Gear US will premiere on the History Channel on January 29th. There seems to be a no-compete clause between History and BBC-America, because they've never shown a new series of Top Gear while a new season of Top Gear US is being shown.
What this means is that American audiences are going to have to wait probably 8 weeks before the UK Original series premieres. And that's going to be a long 8 weeks of waiting through the un-funny, un-interesting US version of the show to play itself out.
*SIGH*

Re: And on that Bombshell...Top Gear
So, Top Gear has returned!
Okay, it took the use of Google, but I figured out the P45 joke. I can't believe Clarkson decided to make fun of Duncan's accent.
Can I just say that this new Pagani. What's it called? The (random assortment of vowels) AAAUIEIAAOUE. Whatever. I don't care that it's a fast supercar. I think it's ugly. Those sideview mirrors mounted on the hood- with that little gooseneck curve? It makes the car look like someone who's applied their eyeliner improperly.

Re: And on that Bombshell...Top Gear
I was inspired by tonight's Top Gear. Ladies & Gentlemen, I give you...
ODE TO PENISTONE: A HOVERVAN TALE
or "Run Amok In A Lock"
by Patrick
ah-h-h-em...
Oh, thy bleating hovercraft
Oh, thy low bridge
We are men called daft
With a van prone to skidge
To float over trouble
And glide over great floods
Our attempts are of course double
and they amount to duds
Water squirts from our pants
Innocent bystanders meet the drink
But should we dwell on the can'ts?
NO! More power, me think!
Spray the locals, say "sorry" a lot
Brace! Brace! Brace! is our refrain while we park
Rescue Oxygen! We are besot!
Never mind, look, we've done a thing!

I thought I read that Season 21 was supposed to begin on January 26th. Is that still happening? BBC-America have made no announcements about a new season, and they usually hype new episodes for weeks.

Oh well, just a week out!
A good start. One thing early on had The Ninja laughing like I haven't heard for a very long time.

You know, I have to admit that the thought of getting a 30 year old hatchback and driving up and down the aisles of a supermarket has a lot of appeal. And I would like to see what else the Top Gear Police Department has in its arsenal.
Fantastic little opening episode!
