Is it just me, or does it seem to anyone else like Smith only just got the part.

Re: Matt is off
It certainly doesn't seem long enough - I hoped he'd do at least one more series as I think he's been great. Oh well! Wonder who will be next?

Would've been nice if he stuck around a bit longer, but I often think that of an incarnation. Best wishes to him, I hope he's got a bright future. Always an interesting time, wondering who's next.

Ben Daniels has been the name doing the rounds for a long time.

It's almost a certainty that they're going with somebody on the other side of 40 this time, isn't it?

McCoy was the last actor over 40 when cast.

Re: Matt is off
The question that hasn't been answered yet is when does Moffat plan to relinquish control? It seems to me that if a new production team is coming on, the actor cast to play the 12th Doctor would be their decision, not Moffat's.

If precedent is anything to go by, the actor to get the part will not be particularly well known.

Re: Matt is off
If Moffat is the one in charge of making this decision, I would guess his selection will almost certainly be someone either completely unknown, or very little known for the work they've done in their career thus far. Look at how he cast Matt, and look at how he cast Benedict for Sherlock.

Re: Matt is off
If anyone other than the current team is involved, then it would mean that a decision had been made on Moffat leaving and who was taking over from him. I know there were stories about Whithouse taking over a while ago, but if Moffat's doing a whole series (at least) with the new choice, it's likely to be him and the current team who make the decision, though there might be a consultation with potential future showrunners. Though that might be on the lines of 'we're looking at casting X - you don't have any problems with them that might cause problems in the future, do you?'
Besides, there's a precedent for outgoing producers to hand over Doctors to their successors who work pretty well - Pertwee and Tom Baker had new teams come in after they were cast and did all right.

Was it always not Ben Daniels, or is the 'pulled out for personal reasons' rumour true? The Co=Ordinator wrote:Not Ben Daniels.

The latter is what I've been told, including the reasons Councillor. Is this news "out there" then?

Re: Matt is off
the website bleeding cool says that the new doctor has been cast since january. if this is true could it mean that it may have been ben daniels but now he's pulled out of personal reasons. sounds like casting patterson joseph and him pulling out for whatever reason.
I hope it isnt mangan, but he's joked about it on his twitter so it probably isn't. I've heard daniel rigby mentioned, but i have a feeling moff will go for an older guy.
what if he casts a big name actor to do it for one year, then moffat would get to write the story of the doctor running out of regenerations. He can then do the end of curse of the fatal death and make the doctor a woman.

Yes, it's been on Gallifrey Base today - what were the reasons? And are they back to casting, or was there a back-up option? The Co=Ordinator wrote:The latter is what I've been told, including the reasons Councillor. Is this news "out there" then?
Re: Matt is off
What's these personal reasons? I hope there was no cold feet over appointing an openly gay actor. He lives with Ian Gelder, Kevan Lannister from Game of Thrones.
Are there any rumours about Roger Allam being in contention? Let's start some.

I would really really like to see Peter Capaldi as the Doctor but I don't see that one ever happening.

And probably unlikely this time as he's playing Cardinal Richelieu in The Musketeers, which is likely to be a long-term regular role.Johnstone McGuckian wrote:I would really really like to see Peter Capaldi as the Doctor but I don't see that one ever happening.
